What a dreary day! The clouds have finally cleared, but it's pretty chilly out there.

Tonight, we hook up the electricity in the coop! It will be nice to have a lights and an outlet for the heat lamp.

Opa, hope you're feeling better today.

I'm having a horrible hatch!! I don't know if it was the power outage, the shipping (deformed air sacks), my incubation WHAT WENT WRONG?!?!? I'm soooo frustrated!! I'm about to order ducks to ease my pain...

Muscovy eggs are one of the hardest to hatch. I'm starting to wondering if we need to treat them more like goose eggs, removing for 15-30 minutes and misting with water everyday. Never fear, my blue hen is setting on 18-20 eggs. They usually have excellent hatched when momma does it naturally. I should have plenty of little ducklings by chickenstock.

Can't hardly believe how cheap strawberries are. I bought some today for $1.19 and thought I got a good deal and David informs me that he paid $1.00 at Meijers. We ahead and made 12 pints of freezer jam. Wouldn't have done that if I didn't think there was a good chance that this cold won't kill me.

'Afternoon everyone. I made the drive over to Lapeer today to pick up a nice trio of Narragansetts. I've got myself in trouble with this, I think, the lady I bought them from has just the goslings for me. And the ducklings. And the goats. And the.... yeah. I need to stay away from her place!

Don't get used to it, a ton of the farmers in florida are (probably as we speak) tearing up thier strawberry patches and putting in melons instead. prices will probably be back up in short order.

Well, we got our first Narragansett egg not even three hours after putting them in their new home.

Unfortunately, she laid it from the highest roost in the coop and the shell is cracked. Hopefully that does not become a habit.

I am having a horrible- NON hatch too. Nothing. One poor baby pipped then died. The other eggs look so crappy- real dark like they are rotted. I opened the incubator- and candled them. I can see ONE baby moving around in the air cell, the rest- NOTHING at all. Just air cell and darkness. No wiggling, no pipping. Nothing.
I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO disappointed.

Then, I candled the eggs under my broody Turken. She has been such a good broody- she has sat religiously and they should hatch next week. None of them are any good. I wish so much I could take some eggs and stick under her that are ready to hatch. If I had any in my incubator due next week i would do that for her. Poor turken.
