Sadinna, I am sorry for your troubles.......If I may ask do you have a diagnosis on your pain? The reason I ask is, my daughter has RSD.. a chronic pain disorder, caused by a surgery gone bad.... she fought with DR. for 5 yrs as they told her she needed to get a pain pump, stronger, addictive pain med. She needed to accept she would sleep the rest of her life away on pain meds. Being her fathers daughter she refused to submit ... fortunately she finally found a DR. that was on her side. Yes she is truly in pain and worked hard to find the cause.... to make a long story short on 1 of our trips to ER the Dr. on duty specialized in RSD and had just transferred from John Hopkins. He told her he would like to try a drug on her (witch got him in a lot of trouble much to our dismay he vanished for a while) Any how he said she had RSD and the shot he was going to give her should stop her pain in minutes. (might of been a pill?) It worked. She still has break throughs but they are not nearly as bad as before. the name of the drug is Sabboxon. I may have spelled it wrong. there is only 1 Dr. in our area authorized to dispense it. It is a drug used for helping drug addicts get off drugs. However it is also now used off label for pain disorders. It got her life back she is able to work full time. thanks to FMLA. she will some time have to go on disability as stress makes the disease worse. and her job is stress full. I was going to post the Hicks Farm web info, but LoveMyChicklets found it before I could get to it. I bought a 50 lb. bag from them for $35.00 this spring. I actually picked it up in Ann Arbor. The farm is a dairy that produces raw milk, and in Michigan it's not legal to sell raw milk--only legal if it's from your own cow. So several farms in Michigan offer "cow leases" or "goat leases" for a fee, and then you also pay a "packaging and handling" fee for each gallon you get that came from "your" leased cow. (It's all a bit silly since several states have made it legal with certain safeguards and testing to sell raw milk directly to the consumer, but Michigan is not one of these states...) Anyway, Hicks Dairy does deliveries of milk to several places every week or every other week, including Ann Arbor. I do not have a "cow lease" but I ran across their web site and they have other products, including the food grade DE (Fossil Shell Flour from Perma-Guard). It was very convenient for me as I am off work the day they deliver to Ann Arbor (Thursdays). You just put in an order on their web site before noon on Saturday of the week you want it. (For non-milk products, you don't have to sign the cow lease and pay the lease fee.)

Other places they have scheduled deliveries (besides Ann Arbor) are Clarkston, Royal Oak, Livonia, Brighton, Chesterfield, and St. Clair Shores. So if you are in need of DE and near to any of those places, check out the delivery schedule to see if it would work for you.

Oh, if you're in the Ann Arbor area but have to work on Thursdays, PM me--most Thursdays it would be no problem for me to pick some up and then meet up later...

Another option--the authorized distributor in Michigan for the Perma-Guard DE is John Smoll of Sturgis, Michigan. I called him two years ago to get my first bag, didn't really want to drive to Sturgis, and he gave me the name of someone in Detroit who was selling bags of DE he'd gotten from John... didn't keep that phone number, but John Smoll could tell you if there's a dealer closer to where ever you live... his phone number is (269) 651-1566. (The Detroit guy met me half way between Ann Arbor and Detroit, we did the deal in a McDonald's parking lot... living on the edge, driven to it by small feathered beings!!!

With only a small coop and a few chickens, my first 50 lb bag lasted about 2 years. I use it to sprinkle in their pine shavings litter and in the nest boxes. I hope it is helping reduce the chances of lice and mites. I also sprinkle Sweet PDZ in on the litter--it's a horse stall product, made of some kind of ground mineral--and that seems to do a better job of reducing dampness and ammonia in the coop than just the DE--helps me to go longer between coop clean outs with a clear conscience...

I'm taking Aquatic Plants with Gary Hannan. I know Michael only in passing, never had a class with him.
I can relate to the comment about the "youngsters", they are half my age and still can't keep up.

I don't know the species yet, but a girl in class took the herp class last term. I think she can ID them for me. She suggested that we take a walk in the woods and look for adults if we have time outside of class. (Hmm, a walk in the woods with a pretty girl? I think I can find the time!)

Not often I run into someone else who has it or knows about it, except for those I know on facebook!
