Arlene, welcome to BYC and to the Michigan thread. This thread I believe is probably the friendliest on BYC. If you look at the other state thread none have grown as large as ours. I think this is because we have so many incredibly helpful people. We gotten together for three years in a row for a day of picniking and chicken swapping. It sure is great to be with a bunch of people who don't look at you as if you're crazy when you start talking about chickens. It has been a great opportunity to change a name on the internet to a friend.

If I can help you in any way please don't hesitate to contact me.

What's that old saying? Another day another chick?

Hope everyone has had a good summer, nice and hot but way to short. chickmate let us know if you find out what that was, did you get a flash light and shine it up the tree to see if anything was up there? funny the one dog just kept staring into the tree.

Yes this Summer was way too short, but a highlight for me was meeting you and also 3 other BYC Michiganders!

Did anyone figure out how to get rid of these icky deer flies that are in my coop on the walls? They seem to fly around at night.

Opa, Its crazy! I get looked at like I am absolutely nuts cuz I have gone gaga over my chickens! I have always loved birds, but I never thought I'd have so much fun with my chickens. I am so glad that my 5 yr old wanted chickens, otherwise I probably would never have done it. I am getting 3 salmon favs this weekend, and can't hardly wait! And only one of my neighbors understands. LOL

Hello all, Ok noob question, what does a chicken sneeze sound like?, One of mine BR girls tonight was letting out this high pitched squeak, at the same time she kind of shook her head, her nostrils looked dry and clean, crop was hard but not huge , shiny eyes...And one of my EE girls has feathers pulled off her back just before her tail I sprayed her with that purple gunk, it also has a hot pepper taste, I licked it once.. OUCH,..lol
I hope they are not picking on the EE shes low on the chicken pecking ladder, but such a nice sweet bird. These two EE roo's have got to go to freezer camp, never again will I buy from the whatever bin at TSC. They are not gentle to my girls, very aggressive rapists, just waiting for my 11 year old to be gone for a day and I'll do the deed.

I'm not laughing because at one time I wondered the same thing. Chickens don't urinate or have a bladder in the same way we do. The white stuff you see in chicken poop is called urates and that is their urine. I have wet spots under the roost as well from time to time and I'm assuming it is just watery poop or a secretion from the beginning of the egg laying process. Anyone else have ideas?

BTW, I don't think we've met. Welcome M.sue!! Glad you've joined the MI thread!
