Cider season is sure coming fast. Can't wait.
October 1st is when I always open the first bottle, and don't quit until deer season is over with.

I guess when I get more and more garden growing, I will be in the same boat. I didn't grow enough this year to even can anything... We ate it as fast as it grew! But, this has been only my second year ever growing my own food, so... Between what we ate, and what I shared... Looks like I will be buying over the winter. I am already starting to collect the things I need to get a faster/better start for next year. I actually got my first sun lamp to be able to start indoors this year, then move to the deck them move to the yard. Also got peet pots that you peel and then bury after they've gotten started and then hardened off. My mom is going to teach me how to can next year. I guess I could go to the farm market Wednesday and buy and stock freezer like I did last year... Nothing like fresh produce though... I wish I had the room to do an indoor hydroponic garden thru the winter, but... NOPE... Not rich enough to buy/build a room. Oh well. I will make due with what I got, and do a little more every year.

Nova -- You don't need a lot of money for low hoops and they can extend the season considerably.

I am really looking forward to all the different types of apples to come very soon here in Oceana County. I have only seen Paula Red and Ginger Gold so far. I want a big bag of Honey Crisp and Cortlands.

I think my coop and yard are pretty secure from most predator but the hawks scare me. I guess you just have to make the choice to free range and take your chances, or keep them in a covered run all the time.
