well, the dude showed up, he only wanted ONE of the roosters, so Big John is now rehomed. He thought he was a very stately looking rooster and the wife should like him alot.

When I went out to let out birds out this morning I grabbed the Roos one by one and put them in a cage out on the driveway for when the dude arrived, Dang I had 4 freaking roosters, not THREE. Saddle hackles and big tail feathers. Don't know how I missed it. This means I STILL have 3 roos, somebody help-- please. I think they are too small to butcher, their breast bones are barely covered, very sharp yet. Need more meat on them for sure.

Chicwana -- The prominence of the keel (breast bone) and the breast meat development is genetic. If, at maturity, your roosters do not have a covered keel no amount of time is likely to change that, they simply aren't built to have that much meat development in the breast. In fact, it's a rare heritage breed roo that does have a completely covered keel.

Did you weight it? I had one like that and never thought to....I frown every time I think of it. Guess that's what happens when you're still green at this. On the bright side....mine was a triple yolker! Never seen or heard of anyone getting one, big eye bulging surprise for me.
