You know what they say about too many roosters in the hen house!

Raz just consider yourself hen pecked. I have one poor rooster, Al, that takes all the abuse, but he's my favorite because of it, how can you dislike a rooster that graciously lets the girls pick on him.

Thanks Tap,
When I'm suffering from the abuse, I'll remember your words and keep doing what I do here.

What do you all do to trim claws? I have one guinea who broke a claw, blood everywhere. While inspecting to find the injured bird I found another one with a huge claw that I'm sure will also break if not trimmed.
I had one break on me too this fall. I ended up using my rose trimmers to take care of the rest. They had a sharp curved blade, and i'm sure there are better options but they worked good for me. you can always give yourself room for error and then file them smooth. If you try to use something that is not curved it may split up the nail..... If you have never trimmed before you can wrap the bird in a towel or at least cover their head. It don't hurt as long as you don't cut the vein, but all they see are giant scizzors going for their toes!

Mabie keep some cornstarch on hand just in case of blood?

I have been waffling around the idea of sharing my pattern for the saddles.... I want to, then i don't...... Supposing i do, would a pic and the dimensions be good enough? I got my start from a saddle thread, then went from there. The original ones were too big and floppy, and i had a hard time getting the elastic around my birds (they kicked and screamed the whole time)

My original intent was to sell them, that's why i hesitate. But i can't compete with the gal on here auctioning them (not you hillbilly) for $3.50 a saddle. Mine are made with top notch stuff, and that would just cover the supplies, not my time.

Back from picking up 2 chicks from M2M. Turken crossed with ???. These chicks are butt-ugly!

My immediate thought for names are Quasi and Modo.

So now the quarantine/introduction process begins.

If your original intent was to sell them, I think you should keep the patterns that you developed. So if another pattern maker wanted to copy your design, they would have to buy at least one from you.

If you are using top quality materials and fine craftsmanship, you don't want someone using your design and producing cheap junk.

Just my opinion as an old pattern maker.

THEY ARE CUTE! Sheesh RaZ... you know you have to stick with food names... How about Poach and Omlet? LOL.

Anyway! Today is the first day since I have had chickens that I did not let them out. When I posted at 6 something this morn, there was no significant snow... NOW there is 8 inches in 3 hours! Snow started here about 8 am, and by the time it finished about noon, there was that much snow here in Holland! WOW. I couldn't believe it. Good thing the neighbor doesn't like to shovel. I cleared a path around my jeep, back to the coop and then went to work... I got home, Carl had come over, gotten my snow blower, cleared my drive way, his drive and path ways to his rabbits and chickens coops, dog run, cuz Maggie and Sasha will not step in snow to there belly... I am gonna have to do some quick paths for my Argus and Ruby... Oh, and he also did Bill's drive and dog path for Angel. LOL. My snow blower gets a lot of use but not by me. LOL I think I have used it all of 4 times... AND that was last year. I am weird. If I can keep up with the shovel, I will. We are expecting another few inches over night. WOO HOO. Not... LOL. BUT back to not letting out the chickens.. I feel bad... BUT not to bad, cuz they would all just come up and congregate in the garage and crap all over all the new wood scraps. YES WOOD SCRAPS! LOL. The sheet and 1/2 I got yesterday was given to me by some friends who had it left over from a project. BIG SCORE! as far as I am concerned. That wood will give me 3 sides. LOL. But, I am thinking I might let them out for a little while... The sun has come out... thinking thinking... I bet they are wondering WTH is going on here! LOL
Well, I am off to pick my little men up from their daddy's house. He can't get out of his driveway to easy right now, and can not take the boys outside, cuz I have their boots and gloves and snow pants here. AND I have a jeep, so I am not plowing snow with my front end. His road will not be plowed till tomorrow. The joy of Sunday snow falls.

I still need coffee.
