I'm serious though...never seen a butt that big on a chick!

Got the culprit that got my splash hen. A raccoon. Live trapped it. Will go bye bye today lol

Sorry about your hen. Seems raccoons are being very pesty of late. The one we caught the other day has been dealt with. It took us a bit to get to doing it because it was the first time for either of us to deal with a predator, but it is finally done and it will not bother us or anyone else again.

Juise- Oh! That looks awful, poor baby.
Hello to all the newcomers.

Jen- cute silkie chick and roo
vjwilmoth- nice coop and I just love the pic of Waffles

Juise I hope your little one gets better soon. My now 10yr old daughter had a very similar stunt, her's was a header into the corner of a door frame at about the same age.
Kids bounce back so quickly, I know I caused many trips to the ER when I was growing up.

Welcome to besjoux and Mzkynd, so great to have you on the thread. Chickenstock is great fun. Meet everyone you talk to everyday so you can put a face with a name, eat lots of great food and shop for that special breed of chicken you've been looking for. Or that bunny or goose or duck or. . . . well, you get the idea. Check out the link in Opa or RaZ's signature for more information. Hope to see you there!

Sure was windy again today. Glanced up to see one of my hens blowing across the yard as fast as her little legs could carry her.

Needed to use up some eggs so made a custard yesterday. Never tried that before, but it turned out really good. Wish I had some fresh strawberries to put on it.

Juise, hope you little one is OK. Looks like it was a really rough landing! EMAW, hope your son is doing better as well. So glad I don't have little ones any longer. I remember every tumble my daughter took when she was small and how my heart jumped into my throat each time.

Wow, so many posts since I logged off....You guys tire me right out!!

Welcome

To the new combers and good luck trying to keep up with these guys....chatty, chatty, chatty.
Okay, DH is home early so pics of the coop real quick!
The bottom two boxes are tip out bins my DH designed for me!
I love your coop, especially the idea of having the bins!!

I did Combined Training - cross country, dressage and jumping. I trained with an ex Olympic Chilean rider back in the 80's (dates me!). But with my American husband, we used to trail ride together western. I bred and trained a couple of Tevis Cup horses (Arabians) but other than that no competition. Although I trained my horses English mostly, I had a couple of Arabians that turned out to be super little cutting horses.

One really essential thing I found when training young riders, is to give them a good horse - the horse can train the rider as much as the rider (a good rider that is) can train a horse.

Hope your daughter does well - it can be super rewarding!
What an experience of life time to do that!! One of the guys that rode at the barn we're at went out East last summer to do the same thing (w/ex Olympic). Those are opportunities you just can not turn down....they're very impressive on a resume!! lol

My DD's trainer's also tries to find the right horse for the rider and vice verse. She is real good at pairing them up.....a slow push button one for the beginner and then a more active challenging one for the advancing.

We really enjoy it and like the all the wonderful people we meet.

I'm still trying to decide what I want to be when if I grow up.
I have a BS in engineering and a MS in Ecology and I still can't find a job
Have you ever considered not letting the employer who's doing the hiring know that you have so many smarts?
Seriously....I have a friend who has a Masters, was having a hard time finding a job and decided next time she applied she wasn't going to state that she had the degree. Yup....got that job!

St. Ignace, gateway to the beautiful UP (and very windy here today too!)

Glad to see water out there and not ice!!

some pictures....enjoy!

These are so cute. Love the black little silkie and the one that was about to get squeezed to death!! lol Cute pic!!

Welcome to all the newbies...I'm terrible with names
M Sue.yes I used to compete starting at age 8 and showed quarterhorses all the way through high school. I competed in both English and western. I enjoyed english a lot more when I.was competing, but now its either western or bareback. We do a lot of trail riding. And now my daughter is a junior horseman in our 4H club. She rode in her first show last summer.
I thought about 4H but really don't know where we'd have the time to work it in. We practically live at the barn. She really enjoys it and I don't want her to feel over whelmed. I love the barn we are at because it's a hands on place. Everyone helps each other out, they all know how to push the broom, feed & water, bring in/turn out, find the right tack for a specific horse, give advice/encouragement when needed & not too, etc....One Big Happy Family!

My granddaughter is into barrel racing and is competing in rodeos in Missouri and Oklahoma. While my daughter in law is a little worried that sh might get hurt, she is glad that she isn't competing in what was my son's event-------- bull riding.
I love the rodeo shows and the Best PBR show I was to was in North Dakota while visiting family. Got to see 3X Bull of the Year....Little Yellow Jacket....UP CLOSE!! On our flight into ND we had the thrilling experience and opportunity to talk with Rob Smets the whole flight. He was one of the two announcers at the event. A trip we'll never forget.

The poor little beebers
Oh my, that poor little sweet heart is right....that will be achy for sure. Hope she sleeps well tonight........Check on her often!!!

I know a few people who are...I'm heading to Alma for the Fowl Fest show. :) I can't believe they have those two things on the same day!!! ((stomps foot))
Talk about poor scheduling of events. The Syrup Fest in Shepard is going on also I believe.

Besjoux and Mzkynd!! We have way too much fun on here!!!

Juice--- Your poor lil baby!!!! She is so beautiful even with her goose egg!! Gotta love the brown eyed girls!
It seems everyones kid has hurt themselves this week...
My son was running around with his new rake from TSC (not without disapproval) and you would figure he would have hurt himself with that but nooo... he doesn't have the rake and trips (in the gravel driveway) with his arm tucked underneath him. So his face goes skidding in the rocks and dirt... I am one of those parents that waits to see the kids reaction before reacting. I knew it hurt though. He sat up and starts to pout "Moooooommmm, I fell down." I told him to let me see it and all he did was skin his nose a little. I rubbed some spit on it and he ran off to continue his game... ( like when your hair would stand up and your mom used her spit to smooth it down) Mom spit cures all...
It does seem like they try to kill themselves when you take your eye off of them for one second!!!!

Not sure I have seen you on here before! You are another Metro Detroiter... Is that a term? It is now!

I'm pretty sure I caused my parents SO much stress as a kid. I personally had three major concussions by 5th grade (bad enough for loss of consciousness), hah. I am sure it had a cumulative effect since sometimes my short term memory recall can be a bit dodgy. One was in gym class in 1st grade, then in 3rd grade I fell down some stairs, and in 5th grade I slipped on ice right outside the school and whacked my head on the pavement. Yep, all done at school

Anyway, we were in the ER so much, they knew us my name. When we walked in, the nurse would ask which son it was this time. They are in their 30's now. Still get hurt, but not as often. Mothers never gets to stop worrying!

My three kids are two years apart each..I swear I was pregnant for six years, thats what it felt like. I lived in the E.R. and was convinced that they were going to take my kids away from me.
My youngest one came out in fast-forward, and never slowed down. She started walking at seven months- doctor didnt believe me until she stood up in his exam room and hauled it across the floor. Well, they dont know how to fall at that age- straight back. She had so many bumps and bruises on her head, she looked abused.
Between her and my son, I was in the e.r. every week at some times. Stitches for this one, staples for that one- the worst case of "mama beat her kid' was when my son split his lip open ON OUR COUCH and got stitches.
I was in the shower. He was watching cartoons with our Great Dane. She was the best dog on the planet Earth. He was three- maybe, I cant remember what I did with his sister when we went to E.R. so maybe I had the neighbor watch her..hmmm...anyhow, I stepped out of the shower at the same time he came running down the hallway with his face full of blood. Said he hit it on the arm of the couch. The one spot where the padding was pushed away and you could feel the hard wood underneath. I threw on clothes and we left.

Never before OR after did we get questioned about what happened More. I started out with dripping wet hair, but by the time everyone got done asking us questions- it was dry. One department then the other. THey asked my son- I started to answer, I was cut off with "we are asking HIM>let HIM answer"...

My youngest was just two when she stepped on a broken bottle bottom- someone threw it over the brick wall that was our property line. SHe was barefoot. Cut her foot in the shape of a bottom of the bottle- and her big toe. Looked almost cut off. I scooped her up, grabbed a washcloth and drove with one hand while applying pressure with the other. SCREAMING baby. I remember I had the neighbor keep my kid for that one, and get the other one from the school bus. I cant remember how many stitches it took to sew her up.
( note to nurses- when a child is crying for their daddy, dont lie to them and say, I will call your daddy to come if you soak your foot in this iodine-stuff....unless you REALLY have his number and plan on calling him, I could have gotten in trouble at that one for telling the nurse not to lie to my baby. Unless she really KNEW where her dad was- but thats another story)

Worse than those sttiches was when she broke her arm right above the elbow - bones sticking out- gag- when she was seven. Tried to do a no-handed cartwheel in gymnastics without a person spotting her. Oh that one got us a week in Childrens Hospital.

Kids- somehow we survive them.

Another windy day but at least the sun will be shining brightly so I not going to grumble too loud. It would be nice if it were just a little warmer. Need to clean the droppings boards in the LF coop and then start working up the garden. If I can get it done I may plant a few things like lettuce, kale, and radishes. Soil is still much to cold to even think about planting seeds that are planted deeper.
