Well, I tend to like bright, fun colors so I'd vote yellow. But then this is the color I intend my coop to be...this is Bluebetween's coop posted here at BYC. Incidentally it's also the color of my laundry room.

Finally got the coop inside DONE! It's all buttoned up and now waiting for siding(reusing some old ugly siding that I'll paint this obnoxious blue color) Then to secure the covered run and put up the girls 50'x60' open pen! Here's the inside roost area. I told you it was a little non-traditional. There is approximately 17 feet of roost space and DH built that awesome poop board under the whole thing for me. I'll hang the feeder and waterer under the poop board.

Does anyone want a miniature pig? There is one in Kalamazoo that is 6 months old, 14 lbs. Looks very cute. See it at RescueMe.org

I would LOVE that sweet little pig! Well actually my dh would. But I shall refrain.

ChickenStock is a big gathering of all us wonderful poultry people from this thread and anyone who happens to find out about it too! Lots of fun, friends, food (drooling thinking of Opa's chicken) and of course poultry!! People bring other things too...last year I even brought some movies I needed to get rid of! There's all different types of poultry, large waterfowl and small, rabbits, supplies, etc. I believe we even had people come up from Ohio last year. Definately not something to miss if you can help it!!!

A lot of chickens don't survive so get a few more than you think you need!

We did this too...okay I got way more than I need. Started by saying I'd only get 7...which I did but then I went back to the store and I mysteriously have 14 now??? If by chance we don't lost many I can always send them to my dad(live next door to him) and he has a small flock of 7 that he won't mind adding to.

As for more biosecurity... does it matter what kind of shoe I wear? Just as long as I can slip them off before I go inside?
I got some croc sandals and I was going to use them but they are open toed.

Doesn't matter what kind of shoe/boot/sandal just so it is only worn in your yard. I take mine in the house just not off my property. I wear crocs as long as the mud and snow are gone. They clean up great, however I do end up with pine shavings in my socks sometimes.

I want to be out working on my coop but the wind is horrible. I think I'll end up working in my sewing room instead.

When my sons were small we used to spend several weekends each fall at Orchard Beach campground in Manistee. The boys always wanted me to get them up at first light so they could be the first ones to search the shore for fishing lures that washed in.

I briefly considered calling about that hog but by the time he's butchered he'd barely make a good sandwich.

OMG I Love the inside of your coop!! That is so neat. I thought of using branches for my roosts too but I couldn't figure out a way to attach them. So I used some scrap pieces of board from an old box spring I disassembled; the chickens don't seem to mind. That is a really great looking set up, I like it. I don't know how I feel about that color though...hehe

Ended up with the camera. Here are some youngster pictures.
On the bottomt is my son's two Calico Cochins. They are Sparrow and Stevie.

(smilie from my son) Can anyone tell girl/boy? I am not good identifying cochins.



On the top is my Sizzle. You can't tell but she has nice cheek tufts. On the bottom is Buzz the showgirl. Because he looks like a Buzzard.


On the top is Rascal who I spent good money for eggs for a Blue Frizzle Polish.

On the bottom is a weird looking Sizzle who's feathers are not coming in. Poor thing is so Ugly. Thinking about calling it Ducky for the Ugly Duckling.

Omg, seriously. I felt that way the second time I took Kaia in for eating berries outside. Like.. seriously, they have got to think that I let my toddler run around outside unsupervised. After reading everyone's stories though, I think I may be a little less worried about it, lol.

I have garlic and asparagus waiting to go in, hope to get a spot cleaned out for them Thurs.

Hey! I though garlic and onions had to go in in the Fall. I failed to get mine in, I thought it was too late, can I still plant them?

Yee gads, no, screaming mamas don't help anything. I think I am always as my calmest when there is some sort of emergency going on.

The northwestern Lower Peninsula produces about four-fifths of U.S. tart cherries.

Yes, I read that tart cherries were going to be very scarce this year, and prospects for fruit are not much better. It's been a double whammy, between the bud killing freezes, and the blooms coming out before the bees to pollinate them. Bees and pollinators were already in big trouble, and while the blooms being out before the bees come certainly hurts fruit production, I am worried about what it will mean for returning bees as well.

I started the new rule with the DH a few years ago.. for every one tree you destroy, I'm buying 2 to replace it!! (I hope he runs over a few more)

Yeah, I have that problem, too. My gaming friends were complaining that I didn't have a picture posted on my Skype, so I stuck up a picture of one of my chickens butts. This picture, cropped bit a bit:

Round, rough perches are sometime a problem, especially for larger birds, as they have to hold constantly to balance and the rough surface may make bumblefoot more likely. A 2X4 layed with the 4" side flat, smoothed off to prevent slivers, makes a great perch, the birds can rest easily on it and pull their feet up under them in cold weather.

Sorry, Bob! Really, though, there haven't actually been very many posts related to gaming, and I am sure the subject is fleeting, so I think you can take some comfort there. In the time I have been in this thread, I have seen an awful lot of "off topic" subjects come through, but you are right, this is a social thread, and talking about other things than strictly chickens is one of the way we connect with each other.
