Good heavens, people. We spend more time "not" talking about it than if we just get it over with. BYC doesn't want discussion of the politics surrounding such activities, I don't think they expect you to pretend it doesn't exist. And if they do? Well, too bad. I'll be happy to take one for the team. Have never been a fan of the over-the-top censorship anyway.

Taprock: Looks great! Happy birthday!

Nova: Aw, sorry to hear about the chick

Hillbilly: Haha! Funny chickens.

Mom 2: Yay! Pictures! So cute! My husband thinks Uggos are cool looking.

Raz: Fence and landscaping look good. I released my ducklings into the outdoor coop awhile back but they are older/bigger than yours.

Sarah: Mine have been out of the brooder and living in the garage for the last few days. They are all feathered out and it hasn't gotten too cold out here, everyone is active and happy.

Opa: Have a safe trip!

If I missed anyone I am sorry. I've been lurking and coddling my youngest while we wean him off a handful of medications after last weekend. My great news is I found someone to take a few birds so my flock is easier to "stealth" out here. They are going to be happy hens out there with lots of farm land, a nice yard, and lots of treats.

We finally have no more house chickens!! My husband, the poor guy, cut the long ventilation, finished drilling the rest of the vent holes, and put up a temporary door to their run. It may be ugly, hastily put together, and not the most efficient design but it has the proper square footage of air exchange. Tomorrow we finish it all by framing the gates, putting up the hardware cloth, and covering it with the netting. Everyone is thrilled to be done living in the garage. They ran around, stretched their wings, went wild pecking at the various bugs living in the old raised bed, and fluffed themselves in the dirt. I'll have to post pictures tonight after the kids are settled.

Ya, That's the stuff!

VJ, don't stress about the boxes.
For 6 laying hens, I have 5 boxes. They seem to like the 2 high boxes and lay in the same box even when the one next to it is open. Rarely have they used the 2 on the floor or the one in the middle.

The young chicks like to roost in the high boxes at night but they aim their butts out and don't poop in the nest.
Okay good. I guess since 2 of our chicks ended up roosters then I really only have 9 that will need boxes. Anyway, thanks!

THANK YOU OLIVE! Honestly, my mind went way worse than that. I'm actually relieved to hear that's why even though in MY opinion that's such a horrible, dastardly thing to do. And yes, I agree about the censorship.

So I'm in a conundrum about my bantams. I am pretty sure I'm going to end up with both my d'uccle chicks being roos. And I have a sneaking suspicion my polish and a couple silkies are roos too. Do you suppose they will all live happily ever after together or am I going to need to find homes for some? Darn this roo-itis seems to be viral!

OH MY GOODNESS...

Someone grow me one of these:

Or even one of these...
OMGosh! Really Mom? Why are you torturing us? lol What the heck color is this called? I have zero intelligence on colors and patterns yet. Maybe you need a porcelain d'uccle roo? I have a sweet one for you. haha
