The last bag I bought, which wasn't even a month ago, was from TSC. 20 pound bag for either $11.99 or $12.99.
Wow... then that is quite the rip off!!!! I will have to look at TSC! Thanks!
Ok someone this morning said they had lost a chick from failure to thrive, I thought it was msue but now I can't find it. Anyway I was thinking about a chick I have that this describes. After losing the one for unknown reasons I thought I needed to pay more attention to the one and see if I could tell what was going on. The chick is a showgirl but is fully feathered. I named it Yeti because it is so heavily feathered. Duhhh she's blind. She scratching and eating up a storm right now. So what to do. She would make a great therapy bird but how to care for her? Anyone want a house chicken? The pictures are AFTER her feather trim.
Awwww!!! I want her!!! I would never be able to drive up there and get her though... She is so beutiful! I know you will find an awesome home for her.
Well, I have been collecting quotes since sometime yesterday, and I still haven't gotten the chance to reply to them. Maybe I can later, and hopefully by then the quotes alone won't take up a whole page.

I spent some time yesterday chopping done cherry branches that needed to come back, and some of the young cherry trees there just aren't room for, and today I built an arbor with some of them. It is about 10 feet tall. I am going to put our new grape vines on it. When I finish the garden, anyway. I have almost finished distributing the woodchips, and... I really, really hate to say this, but... I think I need more.

Anyway, really bad picture, sorry, but here it is. It is far from perfect, but... for my absolute lack of any experience whatsoever, I will take it and be happy enough. I still need to stake the corners in, but I have had enough for today.

I have several injuries, lol... a couple due simply to trying to deal with its monstrous size, (I really could have used a second person at sooo many stages of building this!) One from, yes, actually hitting my own hand with the hammer, (I have never done that before, I feel like I've joined an exclusive club,) right in the muscle between my thumb and forefinger, hard enough to split it open, ow, and one I sustained while dremeling the tips off the nails. One of those smokin hot tips managed to shoot straight down my hoody sleeve, errk. I have a nice little burn from that.

I NEED one of these!!! I will get to work this weekend... maybe I will make a fence instead... Or MAYBE I will make the arbor with a fence on each side!!!! So cool!

Hey RaZ, check it out... [sprayer was there for size comparison]

Oh and on DE... I got a 50 lb bag of it from Family Farm and home for about 20 dollars. This was over a year ago and I am still using it.

About the arbor and the fence.. I have a PILE of sticks in the back yard. I know I won't have a problem doing them. I bet it would look really cool on the side of my house under the tree, but only as decoration there. Maybe build a stick bench in there too... Man... I already have so much to do! LOL

Hi! New here (and to chickens!). I'm in Benzie county, between Frankfort and Traverse City. :) My BIL and I (us) split an order of 16 chicks and they were delivered today! Of course, chicken math is already getting me, and I want 2 more (mostly b/c I REALLY want a SLW and a GLW) but am trying to figure the logistics of coop space, a possible second coop/shared run situation, and how to talk my poor DH into building MORE stuff for me (and the chickens)!

Info on chickenstock is in mine, RaZ's or Opa's siggy lines.

Ok... Just went out and treated everyone to some blueberries. I got to looking at my SLW chicks and my GLW chicks and I do believe I may have a cockerel of each. WTH! My neighbor has the same problem. He's got one of each also, so 2 out of the 6. I picked 4 chicks, and looks like 2 are boys. Whats really ticks me off too, is that the GLW boy has a single comb. I realise this is a bummer thing that happens with hatchery chicks. BUT heck... If I am going to have a cockerel instead of a pullet, then dangit all, it could at least meet the SOP so I can breed it to the other girls who do meet SOP.

The little SLW that I beleive may be a cockerel also has a bright red comb, but it is the right type. The other SLW and GLW have no red in their combs... Heck no combs at all, and the on is blackish, but I know that that also happens, and will turn red when she nears maturity. Dagnabbit.

Stacykins,
Do you have any pictures of your Araucanas that you can post. I would love to see them? did you hatch them from eggs or buy chicks. Can I ask where you got them from?
