Well I am late but I set my eggs on March 4th so I am looking at a late March hatch. I set 12 bantam cochin eggs. These are all from my hens but a some may be a little too old to hatch ( they were a week before I set them).

I just ordered 2 dozen Mille Fleur, buff and mottled eggs. And then I ordere 6 buff barred. All bantam cochins.

Its nice to see you all are progressing nicely. I hope at least 6 my eggs are good and who knows about the ones I ordered. I will update later.

Good luck
4 of mine were 12 days old and 3 others are 10 days old and are doing fine. yours that were a week old do have a chance. Good luck and happy hatching!

@Tdub-

You said one of your hatches you had a lot that never pipped...I just had a hatch like that. I had 2 pip..start to zip and die, and 9 that are ending day 22 with no pip or movement.
What do you think happened to yours? I think my problem is ventilation..

@meshellrose-

Sorry to hear about your Lakenvelders...why do you think so many didn't develop?

@everyone-

Hope everyone has a good hatch!

I am sure mine was too low of humidity. The RH in my house in winter is very low, around 10%. I did not have a hygrometer last time (lesson learned) and I was not adding enough water. I added three more containers and the RH is holding from 45 to 50%. I came to the conclusion that the RH was too low because of all of the fully formed chicks that didn't internally pip and because the ones that did hatch were very small and weak which suggests the airsac was too large. I am hoping for a much better hatch this time and so far so good. This is all a learning process for me as this is only my third hatch as I just got my incubator(s) in January.

Wow, that is low....that would do it...

Hope your hatch does well this time. I am trying more ventilation this time and trying to keep an even closer eye on temps and humidity.

Yeah that is Minnesota winter! It also doesn't help that I have an indoor wood furnace.

Good Luck and Happy Hatching!!!!

I candled the 41 barnyard mix that I set for Mom and tossed 16: either infertile or non-starters due to bad handling (these were the oldest eggs they were saving for me, and had been jumbled around a bit). The eggs that are left have some pretty vigorous swimmers in them! This batch is due on St. Paddy's Day and several of the eggs are green.

Hoping for a good hatch for all of us! Go, chickies, go!

What does the broody Momma do during the hatch? Does she sit through the whole thing or get off of them? I've noticed my Broody covering up her nest as she leaves now. There is about 6-8 days until her's should hatch. What should I watch for so I know when hers are hatching without disturbing her?

Setting in my new second incubator tonight. 30 barred rock and 6 Delawares. This will be my first experience with shipped eggs. I am hoping to get at the least a 50% hatch rate which is supposed to be the norm for shipped eggs. I am excited to get some new blood into my flock and to add/replace some more layers
