Actually, I think he's a lot more MF looking than you give him credit for! I love his red hackles and saddle - which so many MF Cochins are lacking. It's hard to tell from the pics - what coloring does he have on his chest? Does he have the tri-colored chevrons on his chest? If he does, I think you need to send him to me!!

Below is a link to Shagbark Bantams - they raise and show excellent Mille Fleur D'uccles, so you can see examples of what great Mille Fleur coloring should look like:

Absolutely!! Looks like you've conquered the "hackle-black" gene, Lynne!!

A lot of MF's (including my own!) are either 1) nice tri-color chest chevrons but have black hackles, or 2) red hackles and saddle, but no black on the chest or tail. Trying to get the red hackles and saddle, black tail, and good tri-color chest chevrons all on one (good-typed) bird is still my ultimate goal.

That's why I said Cicene Mete's roo was so much closer to MF coloring than she thought he was.

Just a quick question to all of you Mille hatchers: With day 18 approaching, do you hatch in egg cartons or on the wire mesh? Thanks~

2 new mille babies this week! they are in a mixed hatch of bantams....but each has the same markings that my mille babies usually do.

My last 2 mille babies appear to both be boys. sigh. So far I have hatched out 7 babies from my own birdrs. 6 boys, 1 girl. SIIIIIGH.

I've been using egg cartons this year with no problems. Just cut the tops down as much as possible (see pic below) to leave as much of the top of the egg out of the carton as possible. I know there are a lot of mixed feelings regarding using the cartons. I just liked the reasoning of keeping them upright for the last 3 days and the egg oriented in the same position that they were in the turner. This pic is of one of the very first ones that hatched this year using the cartons - he climbed back into the carton to get a better look around!! And if you look closely, you can still see his yolk sac!!
(He hatched from the egg in the bottom of the pic, and if you look closely at the egg at the top of the pic, at about 1:00, you can see where that one has pipped.)

I also put down a layer of shelf liner over the mesh, as you can see in the pic.
