LOL Thanks Erin...I didn't wanna cause a riff anywhere. This is why I notified you before posting any pics. Either way, I'm glad to have wonderful chicks.

Right now it is a free-for-all in my backyard. In another week or 2 I will get me winter pens put up in the garage and then we will go through a "cleansing and purifying" period. ROFL!!!!!!

Cheers!

OK ~ so please help me learn here...
(by the way, the chicks are adorable!)

How can you tell, by looking at them, that these are not MF chicks? I thought they come in several down colors? What should a MF chick look like?

(not that I'll have any, any time soon!)

:-(

They do come in many different colors... just not those

they can be wheaten (blonde), wheaten with splotches of buff and red, various shades of buff and red, various shades of buff and red with splotches of darker gray or reds, grays, blacks but not wheaten that light with that dark of backs. Those are how my columbians look. Now, chickenlittle got 6 co eggs and 6 mf eggs... 2 columbians hatched and the rest were "milles" I suspect the wheaten and one with a bit of buff COULD be mille fleur but we'll just have to see.... I am doubtful though... they look really columbian or crosses

It's a good thing that I only have MFs and Blacks!

;-)

I just updated my "chicken blog" with photos of the three young cockerals that I have thus far. (one more, coming from Lynne ~ SOON!)

Just put 15 MFC eggs in the hatcher!! One of them already has a pip and they have 3 days to go!

I am working on pens so I can change these roos and hens around and see what I will get with hatching. Since there are already 6 chicks out of the buff/MF cross I hope there will be something more to use from them. Then maybe I can have more grown up and can mix and match enough to get even more to work with.

Maybe that bit of line breeding will eventually get me some decent MF but I am not sure. I suppose I need to study more on the genetics of MF but it probably has a lot to do with those modifiers as well.

Chickens aren't as quick as Guinea Pigs. We can breed, raise and show within a few months and then breed that F2, getting F3 before a year is out. However, that is how we have gotten over 100 in the house in such a short time!

Gee, I should have thank you to Msbear!

That is just the info I needed. I like a bit of reassurance that I may may the right decisions here.

And I wanted to say how wonderfully cute the chicks are, Chickenlittle! And they are still something I would think you could use but the Columbians may take you back a step instead of forward, unless maybe too much black is in the MF? At any rate, how sweet of Msbear to give replacement.

I must say, out of all the breeding projects I have going on this group is the nicest! Everyone seems to want to pull together and help each other and that is the kind of spirit I want to be involved with.

All except for "WiseChick" ~ she's a self-professed, wanna-be CHICKEN THEIf!!!
