At the rate I use Xavier and Schmoozle and with all their good qualities I will probably keep them here until they are ready to pass over Rainbow Bridge. I have 2 retired roos here now, one that no longer can give fertility to the eggs and one that is so old he can barely walk. But they have serviced me well in the past so they can live out their lives here in peace.

Such beautiful babies, everyone!

As I have always said, breed for type first, pattern will come. I have many, many pens but I still am crossing in my MF/Mottled birds because they have the most spectacular type. It takes a lot of hatching and growing of these birds to be able to select the few that are good enough to continue the breeding program. I sell what doesn't make the cut for my programs but that doesn't mean the birds would not help others in theirs.

I have been hatching from these birds and getting some fantastic results. I will take photos when the kids are older and I can show just how great the next generation is going to be.

So wonderful that they get to stay with you until they go over the Rainbow Bridge! Sush lovely MF's on here!!!

Butterball update- her (hopefully) comb is getting pretty large. Is this normal for a 4 week old bantam Cochin pullet or should I find it a home where it can be the main fella? I don't know anything about Cochins except they're adorable. I was told this was a Mille but I haven't seen this color before. I hope I bought the right chick! Any advice? Thank you!

Looks like a Mille Fleur Cockerel to me.
:-( at least it is the right type of Cochin. I'm trying to fight denial. Keep thinking "oh the comb doesn't look too pink today". Thanks for the input. I needed experienced eyes because I'm still learning the basics. I was so excited to get a Mille. I'll wait another week and find him a home. Can't have roosters in my town.
