Happily, today I am seeing bits of white! On the wings and top of her head. Now for the other hen with no white to develop!
On the peafowl thread they open a bottle of wine when the pea chicks hatch out! LOL They like to sip and watch them emerge. I cna't do that as it is the middle of the day and I have some hatching now. I would never finish chores tonight if I sipped wine all afternoon.![]()
Peafowl are my next venture. I want blue pieds and midnights. Maybe a variation with white eyes.
Yes, I was looking for a cockerel with breast flowers. I traded Byron for a darker cockerel w/ some breast flowers but I am afraid he's to dark and will give me all dark offspring. I have him over Byron's daughters since he has nice type and so do Byron's girls. I still need another boy from outside lines. My stock originally came from Erin and when I got my birds 3yrs ago, she was having breast flower issues. I inherited the same problem. Now, when I got birds from Katelyn last year, I got 2 with breast flowers and I have some chicks from them growing out now that have breast flowers. No males, though.
The MFCs were on the chopping block once this year and I decided to keep them. I am pondering again. I can't have so many projects going because I simply do not have the space here. I have my wheaten Ams, MFCs, black/blue/chocolate/mauve Cochin projects, LF chocolate/mauve Orp project, chocolate/black/blue bantam Orps, ducks, geese and now turkeys. Ducks are going, geese are going (although I really like my geese), most of the turkeys will be in the freezer and the LF chocolate/mauve project Orps need to go.
I was just telling my husband that it seems hard for me to even think about letting any of our chickens go. Maybe if they were mean? Certainly not if they lay pretty eggs!Awesome!
Now that just makes me wanna hatch some peafowl! Actually, maybe I'll just open a bottle of wine anyway and save myself the trouble of another pen to clean..![]()
I hear you! We,talked yesterday about cutting back on the chickens as we now have the added chore of milking goats. We would keep the MF Banty Cochin project birds and BBS and Partridge Orps. Although I would miss my rainbow basket of eggs.
Oh so pretty! I am dying for a beautiful frizzled cochin! (That pretty blue hiding in and out of your photos is a gorgeous blue!)
Rudy is really unique IMO. I don't want to guess who he is out of as I haven't the slightest idea. Is he the one that had the split breast as little guy?
Ned is a nice looking guy!! He is out of Dinner right? It looks as if all the cockerels you got from him as the same shade of red as he did. Love it!!
I wish I had one like him. So "handsome".
Yeah! I am so interested to see her and Rems offspring growing up--will be watchingOn the bright side- Peppermint is laying again.
