Mille Cochin Info

Where so you get these!?!?

These are such pretty birds, no? This is a project color, many breeders have been working on them for years, MANY on this thread. If I wanted them and didn't have them, I would check out the birds on this thread and contact the breeder nearest me with birds I liked. Good luck!

I have one nice colored roo, no type though. I have 2 pullets growing up but I think no type on them either. I think I am going to use mine in a project rather than try to breed decent reds from them. If I ever get enough money I would buy from Joanie in Maine. However, I am chicken poor so for now I just dream.
I agree, joanie has great type on hers. depending how mine mature (type wise) I may see about getting a good roo from her to put over my pullets.

That would be awesome! Bring in your outside blood early on and work from there. I sure wish I had more time for pure reds. Too many projects, not enough time, energy or money. Pooh!

Roosters on bantams are supposed to have small combs? I was just admiring mines pretty combs today. :( lol.

Heres some photos of my two bantam cochins. They were hatched a few days before July 1st. At the moment they are being segregated from the rest for being mean to the meat chickens. Other than being little brats I think they are gorgeous birds. :D

the only problem, as a red, is he doesn't have the mahogany coloration needed...

True but if someone had a female with somewhat poor cushioning this male would be a good booster for that. Just select the darkest of that breeding and continue to work towards the darker color.

Well- now on the subject of reds, I don't plan on doing this project but think they are beautiful. My plans for Nigus are probly frizzles or Milles if I ever get a hen worth trying with him. But for right now he is just my extra running in the free range flock. :D

Karen, Very nice reds, and I'm liking the chest on the pullet in your first pic. Bobbie, You definitely got yourself some nice chevrons. Arrrrgh, why must you remind me of comb, head, ect….? I was just gearing myself up for a hard cull, and one of the pullets I have in mind has a nice tight comb that I wouldn't mind passing on….. Mike, I can't believe how clean and nice you keep your pigs… here's what mind look like:
My pigs are on a raised platform about 3 feet off the ground. I'll get pics of their pen sometime.
