Mille Cochin Info

Here's a dark boy I hatched out this Spring. I was on the fence about wether to keep him or not but the lack of black in some of my buff females has encouraged me to keep him. He doesn't have a flock right now and just freeranges solo ...he kind of buddied up with my husband. They are always together when he's outside.

That's the name of the game right now, "match up." Unless your fortunate enough to have some awesome pullets like Lynne or have been breeding these for a while or just outright hit the jackpot like BluffCountry

the good mfc breeder will have to find ways to balance their birds in the breeding pen.

We seem to have stepped up to a rather complex challenge, this quest for the Holy Grail of "many little flowers"...and it is requiring many little birds to find it!

BTW, does anybody do mille fleur in glass making or ceramics? I *love* the beauty/delicateness of this technique and have used it in ceramics a little. I have a friend who is a glass artist and I'm thinking of asking her if she would make some small mille fleur chickens for me. She specializes in other subject matter (she is a scuba diver instructor loves to use the sea and its creatures for her subject matter) so I'll have to twist her arm (ie: beg!) to get her to stretch to the barnyard, but for sure I'll share the results here if I can talk her into it.

You Know what i was thinking today.
You guys are going to be a part of history. Someday when its an exepted breed it will have your names all over it. What an accomplishment everyone here has done. Look 20 years from now hatcheries will be asking you for some good stock and people all over will thank you for develping these here in America.
Good Job Everyone!

Rosemary, I've seen many different designs of mille fleur glass at shows - beautiful. I would hope the shape of a Cochin might be easier for glassworks than just about any other breed. So sign me up if you need us to commit to some advance orders to incentavize her!

Hahaha, Gail! This artist thing....I don't know if she will be giddy at bunches of orders or if she will just groan more deeply! Artists usually wanna do their *own* thing, and chickens are not hers. But she is very good, so I can only try and I'll let you know!
