Hi Nancy! So I just took some quick pics of the other 3. They all hatched June 27th, so 12 days younger than the first chick. This is my first experience with chicks displaying what I would consider "partridge", so I have no idea what to expect. But I do like the fact that all have the buff feather background. Maybe others can share their experience with chicks that look like these.

Here's the proud parents. Bolero has nice chest mottling - I'm hoping that passes on to his youngsters!

Here's an example of color passing from sire to son. This was my roo Chief

And here's his 5 month old son, Tank. I put a nice picture story of Tank on My Page. Tank has improved comb points and even better shape than sire. I would change black neck hackle to dark red and the light buff base color (which looks nearly lemon to me) on his chest to darker buff. Good to see the white tips & black in feathers.

Coopa Cobana--I didn't save back any chicks showing the partridge type color. After seeing Lynne's earlier post of her wonderfully patterned pullet, I question if I should have!

I don't have enough yet to be picky enough to get rid of partridge yet. I suspect it will be popping up decades from now still. I figure still just work on type first, markings second, base color third.

Thanks, Patty for commenting about type. I think we all get wrapped up in pattern and worry that our birds don't have enough black or are too dark or whatever though the monster that's staring at us right in the face is overlooked. TYPE FIRST, folks

Hey all

First I want to thank Nellabean again for the beautiful boy I got from her yesterday She said he was marked fantastic and that he had the best type of her others SHE WASNT KIDDIN' He looked great when I went to pick him up but he looks even better after he got home and in his pen My wife even likes him He will improve on mine Im sure Now I just have to wait till it cools down so Lynne can send me one of hers
On the partridge down color Dont give up on it It might take a bit longer to see the color it will produce but it is well worth the wait But as has been said before TYPE is number 1 You can always get color back I have to agree with that

Today is day 20 and I have 3 pips already! Temp. didn't get above 100.2 so I don't know why they are so early, but I can't wait!

Hi Mike, glad to see you are happy with the boy. He is by far the best of the bunch....he was my planned "keeper" of the boys, but you will definitely get better use out of him than I ever would. I think I'm going to keep the darker more dominant boy that you were also looking at. Just somethin' about him!
