I put 4 of those girls into breeding with my foundation MFC roo, Fred. He is the grandfather and great grandfather of these girls. He has a lot of red, not much white to speak of and very little black so I will see what I get from this cross. He is very typy, too so I really have my fingers crossed on what I will get since he produced fairly decent pattern from his MF/Columbian ladies to start with.

I may not be producing much in pattern but I am working hard to keep type going. The pattern is coming along but not quickly. I know I should sell out some of my lesser girls but it is way too hard to part with any. Same with my Mottled Cochins. I have plenty but can't bear to sell any! Yes, I have a sickness......

They over run all my grow out pens and are now moving into the laying flock. DH saw a few out free ranging yesterday and about had a heart attack. I fluttered my eyes at him and said they would not be there if I had more help building pens. He jumped in and helped for about an hour. I guess some is better than none!

I have MFC that are 3 mo. old, 2 mo. old, 1 mo. old and younger. I have been hatching all I can to get a replacement for my beautiful roo that I lost. So far I have more pullets than cockerels. I can get pictures on line early next week. (I am a Middle School teacher and am just finishing the year and my birds are my therapy.) I would a couple of local BYC friends with MFCs definately would like to broaden out blood lines. All my foundation hens and 2nd roo are from a local breeder but my good roo was from Arkansas. He was prolific, I have nearly 40 chicks from him.

I have a beautiful young cockerel who is turning out to have NICE coloring on him! His foot feathering is out of this world, and his type looks great so far. The only issues I have with him is that his comb falls over (not sure if that's even a problem, or why it happened) and he has vulture hocks.

I was wondering how hard it is to breed those out, or if I shouldn't ever consider breeding him because of them.

I have had the hardest time with this project......he's the only bird I've hatched out of almost 20 shipped eggs. I have even considered giving up the project, but I REALLY like him! I just don't know if he's breeding quality since he has those vulture hocks.

I have some youngsters! I am just learning about shipping though. Mine are from Ralph's lines.
Here is an example of some of my chicks. These are roos mostly though. I have a bunch of pullets in this batch.

by the way, your Orloff eggs hatched great! I got some nice chicks.
