Mille Cochin Info

Yes, I know, but the short the trip, the better the odds for a good ride....

Unfortunately, the vulture hocks are a disqualification, and the lopped comb is a defect (see below). Personally, I would not use him in my breeding program - these are not traits you want to be passing on. Type should always take priority over color/pattern.

I was so worried about that.

Is the flopped comb a genetic trait? Aside from that and the vulture hocks, he really is a nice bird. Sigh.....

I should have some nice birds to ship in September, if anyone wants to get on my waiting list.

I have one trio ready now too.

Now see, with this project I have problems letting anything go. Even my "culls" are still here and just hanging out being pretty birds. They aren't correct for my breeding program but are just so darned cute and sweet, I hate letting them go.

I have a regular customer that has begged for one for a long while now, wanting just a pullet to add to her yard and I had the hardest time deciding which one to let go even though I have many that I do not use. I have emails from folks wanting them but have put off selecting the ones to let go because I truly love them all.

I know it is bad practice to keep so many unusable hens but they are still pretty to me. Hence the reason I have 700 chicks, ducks and chickens now! Blast this sentimental old heart!

I love seeing so many others wanting to join in on this project and in the past 2 years there has been so many new breeders I just know the pattern, color and type will get there quickly and they will be shown enough to be added to the standard.

I have been enjoying all the pics and wanted to share some of mine. Here's my older babies

Here's the lone bird I kept from last year. not loving his comb or his lack of black on his breast but, think I will put him to some of these black mottled girls with brassiness

Awwwhhh, I wish I could see them but my computer won't let me. It won't open in another tab and when I click view, it only opens the same box we see in the message.

I can't see your pics MsBear!

Can an experienced breeder tell how the color pattern will come through?
and, if so, by when?

Same for type - when can you tell?

I think most of these are boys, but here is a sampling of what colors I have from front, side, and top!
