Mille Fleur Leghorn Thread PIC HEAVY

Thanks Cheryl. I have two cocks in the pen. The one roo in the picture with the girls is a total ham and always gets in front of the camera. They are hard to take pictures of because they are food driven and always looking for handouts, so they are always facing me. I can't get a side shot unless from a distance.

How have you ladies found the viability to be when shipping these eggs? A few years back I had several batches of Exchequer Leghorns shipped to me from different breeders with very little to no success.

Wondering what have proven to be true with these?

I'm TRYING to get some shipped eggs to hatch but have had horrible luck. Most are clear......I do have 3 in the brooder right now so cross your fingers they make it to adulthood!!

It's really hit or miss. I wrap my eggs and they float in a big box of peanuts, when they leave I've checked fertility and typically I'm right at about 90-100% at home. The roos really do a good job of fertilizing the hens. I ship overnight using fedex and still there can be hatches. I always try to send many many extras.

That said, I'm collecting eggs that the F3s are laying now. So these are the first eggs that will be the fourth generation at my place!!

Oh I am so glad I found this thread. I cannot wait to begin working with this breed the beginning of next year! I have been gobbling up as much leghorn info I could find and pouring over pictures. I am really enjoying what I am reading and so in love with these birds. Cheryl - seriously thrilled to meet up with you in Jan and get some of these from you. You have been doing such a wonderful job and your enthusiasm is infectious.

So nice of you Zoowee....

I just sent 4 pullets and 2 cockerels to a 16 year old in Texas, they arrive to her tomorrow. At 16 this girl is a very dedicated breeder already. It will be so nice to have so many great breeders working together on this... in hopes that many years from now we'll be in the APA!!!

If you still need someone to work with these, I would LOVE to do it! I am currently working on the Cream Legbars also, and helping to get a club formed as well as working towards developing a standard and getting them in to the APA-several years from now. I LOVE projects and these would be ideal-the most beautiful color, on one of the best laying breeds! Can't get any better than that!

I PM'd you

These are beautiful birds. And leghorns! Is there anyone breeding them in or around eastern Oklahoma? I would be very interested in working with these.
