Mini duck pond ideas

wow to the kitchen drain idea.

i leave a hose in the bottom of the pond and just turn it on for a while each day til the water starts running over. it keeps it a lot cleaner than you would think since the fresh water is coming from the very bottom up.

I think those are both good ideas-- for now I just dump the kiddy pool a couple times a wk- it doesn't get all that dirty since I only have 2 ducks. My DH has feel in love with the ducks though so come spring I may have a dozen:D

yeah, ducks are the best.

I have been using the bottom from one of those 20 gallon flower pots..works great they are about 2 or 3 inches deep, and they can get in and out just fine..

I only have one Khaki Campbell duck, I think about 3-5 weeks old, and she has a small blue tub that is only about 5 inches deep and 10 inches wide. It was her starter pool and I was planning on getting her something bigger, but when I tried she freaked out in the deeper water. She has like a safety blanket connection to this tub that is now too small for her! Last night was the first night I had her sleep outside in her pen, and when I got up at the crack of dawn to check on her it looks like she slept all night in the water pool. Is this healthy for a duck?

get the rubber roofing stuff, that will last forever, wont rip,and you can dig a hole or whatever and put it in,I am going to use old railroad ties and stack two high, then put this rubber in and wrap down the sides on the outside, then put plants and slab rocks around the top.I cannot dig down as where I am putting the pond is over the top of some old house foundation and nothing ever grows there but weeds anyway.

I'd love a self cleaning pond... do they even exist? Are they expensive? I'd imagine a billion snails couldn't keep up with two scovies!

My ducks would sleep on the pond every night, till the mink showed up and started a killing spree. (They have been relegated to a pondless farm for the time being till I get that mink.) As long as it's warm enough outside and/or the duck has most of it's feathers it should be okay. Is the pool in a predator safe location?

Yep, the little tub is portable so I take it out and clean it at least once a day and then put it back in her new cage. The cage is about 5ftx5ftx4ft, but I take her out on walks a few times during the day. It used to be the chick's outdoor cage until yesterday when I finally got their coop ready. Now it is for duckie, and since she is all alone there is plenty of room for her pool and little house. I'm working on getting a dog house for her, but until then it's just cardboard that has a layer of dried grass in the bottom. I'll see about getting pics up tomorrow. I don't think it got too cold, only about 55 degrees last night, but it was a little windy. She has all of her feathers except some fuzz on the back of her neck still, will she be ok?
