Pensacola..... Is that anywhere near you?

Here's a picture of my miniature donkeys. I started with miniature horses and still have them, love them too. But if I you asked me which I liked better I would say my mini donkeys win. Unlike my horses who would run me over while feeding grain, the donkeys will wait patently and then come over for some loving and then go for the grain. They would stand still for hours next to you, no nipping, no searching for treats just for love.

I would not tell anyone to get a dwarf!!! Dwarfs mostly do not live over 5 years and they have alot of pain and legs are deformed and teeth making them hard for them to eat and internal organs are normal sized smushed in a TINY non growing body causing more pain. As they get older their legs hurt them more and more and it becomes hard for them to walk and I hope NO ONE ever ever breeds these. I know someone that has this stallion that keeps throwing these dwarfs and most of the time they leave the foals to die in the pasture legs so twisted up they can't walk. I rescued a dwarf from the people and let me tell you I feel so bad for her and theres nothing I can do but to do my best to keep her pain free while shes here and I will know that pretty soon I will have to deal with the fact I will have to make the choice of having to lose her. I am already having to help her up in the pasture because her legs have bad circulation and she lays down for a while but cannot get back up. It just makes me SICK that some Sick twisted person wants them to breed just because they will not grow and they are super small to keep in some house locked up not caring if they are in pain because of a human wanting money.

GET a normal miniature! If you do happen to get a dwarf I hope you DO ALOT of research and be responsible and keep in mind the health issues that will need to be paid for and taken care of RIGHT then and there as they come up.

Also dwarfism has nothing to do with being extra small it is a gene that both parents have to carry nither parent should be bred AGAIN

I had 2 minis, and wish I hadn't traded them for full-size horses. They have attitude, but they are easy to work with, and so very cute. If I could have a horse again, it would definately be a mini!

THANK YOU fo rputting this info out there! You are so right! Just because we CAN, doesnt mean we SHOULD. It is such a sad thing to create a life destined for pain. I understand that not every single dwarf will have every health issue possible, but the majority will. Most people dont know/believe that mini's and dwarves have all the regular sized organs and teeth all stuffed inside a tiny package of skin and bone. It doesnt seem possible, but it is. Thats why alot of minis have oral/tooth problems- regular sized teeth in a tiny jaw.

Anyways, just wanted to say thank you for reminding us all to do our serious homework before getting a new pet!

My dwarves came from all over the U.S. Since I knew how to care for them it was my way of rescuing them. I do not breed or try to get a dwarf from my horses!

I had up to 12 dwarves at one time and found most of them good homes. It was alot of work to screen people and make sure they were going to care for them properly....

Since dwarves are out there and if you have the time and money to give them a good home then do it.

They don't ALL have bad feet and health issues that doom them early in life... Little Boy lived to be 12 and Rose Bud was 13. The one pictured is 6 years old and he is healthy as well as 6 yr. old Dainty in my avatar.

Do not just assume that someone is breeding and selling. Until a dwarf is born to some mini owners they did not even know about dwarfism...

There are forums that deal with dwarves and so many people on there love and care for them...... I belonged to Lil Beginnings and worked with Janell in Tx. and Bill in Tenn. to rescue...

Thank you for the info. I didnt know any mini could have a dwarf. Is there a way to tell if my mini might have a dwarf? I'm not breeding (or even have a stud), I was just wondering...
I'm glad to hear you are helping out, it can be hard to find a home for ANY horse right now (economy and all).
I didnt assume you were breeding, although since you didnt state in your original post that you were actually helping the ones already in existance, I can see how someone might think you were promoting dwarves in general thus helping anyone who might in fact be breeding them on purpose for money, or maybe be a breeder yourself promoting your business.
