Miniature Horses

OMG........did someone say if a mini was "a 'real' horse" ?!

Ok, I'm OK now.....I have both full size and mini horses, and mini's are definatly real.

I would like to add, please be careful with a goat with horns, I have seen ponies get hurt pretty bad with a headbut. I imagine a kick from a mini would not do the goat any good either.

I keep a mini and a goat together and have had no major problems. The only issue I have is that the mini will kick at the goat if she tries to share his dinner, so I just separate them at feeding time.

OMG I would have never thought! I know i shouldn't be laughing at the poor goats expense.

I was caring for the lady's animals at the time, she had two dwarf mutt goats, two chickens(no, they weren't bantams

) and a mini stallion in the same pens. Well the goats were not disbudded and kept in regular field fence. So EVERY time I went to check and feed, at least one of them had their head stuck. Well, one day I pulled up and of course heard the goat yelling she was stuck (

) and I noticed the stallion was paying the goat some particular attention.

The goat wasn't harmed, but you could see all up and down the back was wet from the stallion mouthing and nipping at it. You would think the silly goats would learn not to stick their heads through OR ELSE

I have a very old blind mini gelding that enjoys being with my goats. On pasture he gets along fine with all of the goats. But when they are penned I matched him up with a younger buck. My does chase him off the hay. The buckling is happy to eat next to him and they sleep together.
It's like matching two horses up. You need to take the personality of the mini and match it with the goat. With 20 years of horse experience, I'm sure you know what I mean.

I have all my goats in the same pen as my mini. They get along very well, and I think the presence of the mini keeps away predators.

Well here you go. Here is my mini, Oreo with his favorite goat, Spot. I have two mini with my goats. I had just Oreo first by himself with the goats. In fact, he does alot of things like a goat. He climbs up on things, cement blocks, mounting blocks, hay bales, etc.

Sometimes the horses get to running around and soon you see the goats running for the barn to jump up on the cable spools. There they feel safe.

Bottom line, goats make great companions for the minis. I'd get a bigger sized wether. Like a nubian, etc. You can find lots, reasonable. 4Hers like to see them go as pets rather than meat.
