Minnesota!

@Cluckies , your winter post is awesome! Thanks for putting the time and effort into it.
Thank you!

Quote: They do eat it here and there, it is not harmful to them. it is like grit or sand, all natural. Yes, they can scratch it around and mix it into the bedding, then anything that falls on the floor gets dried up faster. Yes, basically I went through some waterers to see what would work best for me. everyone is different, and their set up and what will work for them. I've kicked around Bogtowns idea of the cookie tin heater, many people use that with good results. The only one that did not freeze all winter was the 2 gallon pail with deicer heater and pump. weird, I know.
This one:

Here is the one that fell apart when I picked it up and got water all around in my run. It is a little far for you to drive to get it. I picked it up at fleet farm. But if your still interested, you can PM me.

Here is the replacement heated dog dish with the rubber bowl inside. Works fairly well, but have to take out the rubber bowl when it gets really cold. I've put it up higher now.

Here is a link for directions for a Bogtown type cookie tin heater. seems fairly easy and inexpensive, I might give it a try, I like experimenting:

@duluthralphie , I hope you feel better soon!

@KlopKlop , have a wonderful camping trip!

BLANCHRANCH!!!

We are going to going on a great vacation together! I got a reply on that jacket I am selling. Someone emailed me and asked if I still had it. I did not even have to mention the charger. I assume the guy will be here with cash soon!

I am ready to go!!

1. If I could binge on Netflix for an entire day I'd watch this show: All the ones I really like I have seen. I normally watch one or two shows before I go to bed.
2. One place in the world from which I want to send a postcard: From a sailboat of my own anywhere in between Australia and Vietnam
3. You could chase me to Russia with this food: Beef liver with onions
4. The daily chore which I dread: paperwork
5. Fastest I've ever driven a motorized vehicle: 175
6. Tried my first alcoholic beverage at this age and thought adults were nuts to drink it: 5 Never thought adults were crazy to drink it.
7. First person I ever had a crush on, can be real or celebrity: Julia Kinkel. Classmate in second grade.
8. Favorite chicken breed: ???? Can't say I have one yet. Favorite chicken of the day is a barred rock.
9. Do I have enough chickens? No but my permit does not allow more.
10. One question we want to ask others here but are afraid of being laughed at: Afraid of being laughed at? You mean that is a bad thing?

I am way better today! I tell you my homopathetic cure is great!

It did make me tired and I fell asleep watching TV, BUT that is not unusual, I turn on the TV, I fall asleep.

I have two of those red heaters like cluckies has, I like them, but I learned you have to"spin" them as you pick them up to relock the dog ears. After a couple times of soaking my legs I figured it out.

I am going to try a couple other things this year. I have a couple of my home made waterers I will use in the larger coops. They are a 30 gallon barrel with the spring loaded water cups on them. They work and do not leak.. DO NOT USE THE ONES THAT do not have springs and rely on water pressure, they leak and fail.

I will be setting the barrel on the heaters that look like upside down drain oil pans, and a stock tank heater inside. I cut the tops off the barrels and made covers out of other barrels so I can carry water on warmer days and not have to on cold days.

I am going to have some outdoor waterers which will surround with the bales I hope to get from Aussiegal.

Winter water is a pain in the rear!

Not sure if I've followed your your issues with set up entirely but for winter I've made a cookie tin heater under $10 that sits on bricks. Then the fount on top of that. 25 watt bulb is not good enough for Minnesota weAther. I use a 40 watt. 60 watt the tin gets too hot for my comfort level. At 15 below you'll need to chip ice with the 40 watt. In which then during those streaks of cold weather I bring out my second water fount. One thaws in the house and gets ready to bring down the next day's water.

I'm leaning towards the base heater under the metal waterer.
