SCALING BACK!!! I have some birds to go that I have decided to cut the breed from my program:
Buff Silkies- I have the breeding pen 5 hens and a rooster, and a few juvies and chicks too.
New Hampshire Red- Yes, these are German Line. I have 3 hens, one who lays an odd-shaped egg, so I would let her go for free. I have some juvies and chicks from January hatch down to those who are in the hatcher now.
Black Minorcas-these are excellent layers of white (some even a light blue tint) eggs. I have had these and working on improving and increasing the size. They are not SOP, but they are still a step or two above hatchery quality, I think. I have been culling heavy on the cockerels this year and the roo is gone already. The girls would make good layers for someone just looking for a batch to sell eggs from.

Has anyone noticed a spike in predator activity lately? I've caught and dispatched 2 coons and a smiley opossum in the last week.

Yes. And a Black bear no less....

Spring makes for hungry predators...

So I just shot a raccoon in the ***** that was in the process of killing a hen wood duck, the coon had her trapped in the box. does anyone know anything about raising wild duckling like this?

Were the ducklings hatched yet or are you putting the eggs in the incubator? I have heard that its hard to get wood ducks to eat initially, and they should be put in with other ducklings (like calls) to teach them. I hope you can save them! I would love to be able to raise some wood ducks.

They were hatched, I caught three of them when they jumped. I have two one and a half week old mallards, should I put them in the same box?

Just a heads up: Currently I have 15+ of the buff orpington/polish/faverolle/brahma cross chicks for giveaway. These were 'oops' eggs that went into the incubator. Possibly more of them hatching soon too. I also have several other birds available for SALE:12 Cayuga, 1 exhibition rouen & 4 Muscovy ducklings $6 each, 3 Sebastopol goslings $25 each, 6 African goslings $15-20 each, about 10 white silkie chicks $10 each, 15-20 bantam polish in smooth & frizzle for $10-25 each. I'd also have 3 Peruvian guinea pig females for $30-60 each, 9 cut-throat finches for $40 each, and several bird cages for sale. I'm off work Monday through Wednesday. I am from Sleepy Eye (southwestern MN). NPIP certified and a MN Hatchery permit. Drop me a message if interested...

No, I think the mallards will be WAY too big right now to mix with the woodies. Maybe see if they'll eat on their own first.

They are eating on there own, I'm just gonna leave the three of them alone together and hopefully they pull thru. And holy cow can these little ducks jump!
