Minnesota!

Thank you

Hi everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself. I have a year old flock of 3 hens( Australorp, Orpington and white rock). They are the best, this entire winter they have all been producing an egg a day! We decided to expand our flock and I went to anoka ramsey farm and garden center and picked up a red sexlink, RIR, speckled Sussex, Dominique and gold laced wyandotte!
Hope everyone survived the storm! We got about 8" here!

New Here!!! Live in Southeast Minnesota near Lake City. First year doing the chicken thing and am about 1/2 way done with my 4x8 coop. Only want to do 6-8 laying hens, but everywhere seems to want me to order 15+ Birds! Don't know anyone else in the hobby so haven't been able to find someone to split an order with. Does anyone here in MN sell chicks? I'm willing to drive to pick them up. What else should/do I need to know about raising chickens in MN!?
So many new people!! Great to have you!!! Please feel very welcome.

Happy cats!!! Super cute.

the quick weather change distracted me! the kittens move out of the shop into their new shed and get free access to roam the farm. they are so happy and are so fun to watch.

RJ figured out how to get to the top of the corn crib, Wallace soon followed and they watch over the farm from their thrones

Even Buck was enjoying seeing grass for once

How do you tell RJ and Wallace apart?
RJ is about 30% larger than Wallace as he is a food hog. His head is also broader. DW says she cat tell the difference but I have spent more time with them than she has. She also isn't as good at telling the difference in some of our chickens we have named.
I have learned to look for a unique defining feature

Does anybody else have to coax their chickens out in the winter? They just stood there like ***. I tossed out some mealworms and their fear took a backseat for a little bit. Then it got a bit windy and they were like SEE YA! and ran back into the run. Chickens.....

Unless it is calm, sunny, and the snow is well packed down... Yes very much so

Nathanzee, another way cool video - keep em coming! so wonderful.

Minnesotanice, yup! they definitely prefer a sheltered area to being out in the wind and blowing snow. And packed snow is preferable to loose snow, and no snow is best of all.
