Minnesota!

Might I suggest getting a big dog crate (I would use a wire one) and place him away from the rest of the flock? In the garage or something might work if you have space.  If you needed to, you could even set it up outside a garage or something with a tarp around it, leaving good ventilation.  I had to do that with some hens one time and it worked.  With the cold that is coming though, inside would be better.

I would take him if I had a place, but I am full right now except the tractors that are full of snow at the present.

Always tend to him before going to the other birds and always make sure you are cleaned when you go to him.  You need to keep him quarantined anyway, for both his sake and your flocks' sake, in my opinion.  Whenever you bring adult birds to your flock, it is prudent to keep them quarantined for about a month to see if anything does show up. This is one reason I rarely will bring a grown bird to my property.  Sometimes you just have to to get the ones you need.

That's my plan at this point. We have a sun room where I can put the crate.

I have never had an issue with ducks making a mess a digging holes. They do under pinetrees but thats it. But mine have a little stream. My Muscovys dont make any wholes though. Its the Pekins that enjoy the mud!

Have you thought avout Jerseys?? They are small and sweet. And the steers make the best meat I have been told by the local butcherer. The only weird thing is the yellow fat and not white
I turned down a half Jersey steer one time, and my brother who worked that beef ranch in Colorado told me I should have taken it. IF we ever raise our own, I intend to get a Jersey cross, or Hereford, or maybe one of each, since you never should raise one alone.

blanch, those kittens/cats look so happy! bet they are just in heaven with all the new places to go and things to climb on.

coyotes were yipping tonight when I got home.

I came home to a hen with a prolapse :( not what i was hoping for.

We cleaned her up real well and she hasnt been pecked so hopefully she recovers. I tried poking it in (per directions of a vet website) and it went at first, but then she pushed really hard and it came back out some

I dont feel an egg in there, but this is a first for me so i dont know what to feel for. i poked all over and didnt feel anything hard. she did poop some after i cleaned up so maybe she has more of that in there. She was pretty crusty with white poo

She seems fine and doesnt mind me cleaning her or anything, but i know chickens are good at hiding pain.

The vet page i read said to withold feed and give vitamin water, so i mixed up some electrolytes and put her in a dog kennel in the basement where it is cool. i will keep checking on her tonight and see where she goes.
