I came home to a hen with a prolapse :(  not what i was hoping for.

We cleaned her up real well and she hasnt been pecked so hopefully she recovers.  I tried poking it in (per directions of a vet website) and it went at first, but then she pushed really hard and it came back out some

I dont feel an egg in there, but this is a first for me so i dont know what to feel for.  i poked all over and didnt feel anything hard.  she did poop some after i cleaned up so maybe she has more of that in there.  She was pretty crusty with white poo

She seems fine and doesnt mind me cleaning her or anything, but i know chickens are good at hiding pain.

The vet page i read said to withold feed and give vitamin water, so i mixed up some electrolytes and put her in a dog kennel in the basement where it is cool.  i will keep checking on her tonight and see where she goes.

Ugh. If it's anything like a prolapse in a human... No fun.

I hope she gets better soon. Poor thing.

Would you really expect anything less from a gorgeous man-bird like him?

What a beautiful, but cold, morning it is today. I knew the humidity must have been high last night when I was driving to get feed. The truck thermometer ready 20-degrees, but it sure felt cold. Humidity 85% when I got home. No wonder. So, no surprise there is a bit of hoar frost on the trees this morning.
I know we are in for another cold snap early next week, but I can feel Spring coming! I went through my seeds stash and started filling out what I need to replenish. Chicks, bunnies and baby plants are all sure signs that Spring is coming.

What I am truly thankful for is my parent's hearing loss.

Talked with Rich Vaughn yesterday about breeding Jersey Giants. He suggested, since I am not trying to win national competitions, to breed Eddie with my Jersey hens from McMurray and see what happens.
