Minnesota!

I'm considering selling a couple hens, but I can't choose which ones!

Well if it makes your decision any easier... My girls are so well loved, I really do consider them pets as I spend a lot of time with them! They are spoiled, have a very nice/warm coop and very little predators around (and there coop well built against them).

:)

How many are you looking for? I have many that I am selling. Some are 2yrs old and many are younger. I have some that are breeder/show quality Black Australorp's and some hatchery stock. I was planning to sell them at the Peirz auction.

Hey everyone.

I think I might be down to one hen in the next few days :(

I don't want to leave one alone obviously. Does anyone have any hens they would part with? I can't find anything on craigslist.

I am from fergus falls but work in Minneapolis so somewhere along I94 would be great!

Thank you so, so much
How sad to have only one hen. I am going to have to sell some of my hens in order to make room to be able to keep some of this year's hatched chicks. Mine are all banties, but there are several sizes of them from micro up to about 3-4 pounds. A couple of my larger gals regularily lay a large or xl egg. I could send you some photos. I'm just a couple miles north of Mpls near 694 and 35w.

Well, lost one of my hens yesterday. She was looking very pale when we got home. I thought she may have been broody while we were gone &not got the little extra attention& food that I give my broodies. I started giving her goodies but her color never came back. She seemed fine other then being pale. Yesterday, the other girls started to peck at her so I brought her to the house. She ate, drank but still passed a couple of hours later. Down to 8 hens & 1 roo. I need to find a place to have a brooder! My shop & garage aren't heated & no outside light. What sort of set up do some of you have?

I lost my back-up New Hampshire rooster today. He was fine during the day when I did chores, but when I went out to do a final egg check and close up a couple of pens, he was laying dead in a run.

The return of the very cold nights I think could be a culprit with some problems?

I am looking SO forward to the return of warm days so we can forget this awful winter.

I am so sorry, this winter has hit me really hard too. I lost 3 roos and 6 hens despite everything I tried. I too am so ready for spring!!!

Sorry about the loss of your birds Minnie, Aussie and Triplell. Never easy thing to see. I lost one EE hen about a month ago. Will miss those beautiful pale blue eggs she gave me. I'm sure I've got those two hens with EYP as well. So looks like I got room for 3 Newbs this year. The kids want our BA to set eggs. She's laying now and she usually goes broody at the end of her cycle. So I think we'll go that route with some fertile eggs. Fun for the kids, fun for me too....the biggest kid around when it comes to chickens.

Last year I kept them in the office until they were mostly feathered. That got a bit dusty for the liking of DH, so this year they will be in the laundry room. I put them in 25 gal plastic totes with a clip on lamp for a little added heat (since it's only like 60 degrees in our house this time of year). They'll go out into a grow-out portion of the coop when they're about 3-4 weeks old. They won't go without supplimental heat until it's really spring.

We have an attacfhed garage that is insulated. I brooded our chicks there 5-6 weeks then moved them to the coop mid May. We had some 20-30 degree weather when we had them in there and I would say...as a whole the garage...with up and down doors stayed about 50-60 with that crazy red heat lamp. the 4 sided brooder maintained it's 90 degrees just fine for the chicks. We did well in the garage.
