Minnesota!

Does anyone live in St. Francis and commute to the twin cities for work. We've been looking at properties to buy and google maps says that it would take 55 min without traffic to commute. And it seems like there arent many jobs I'm interested in St. Francis itself. I currently walk dogs and teach art.

Sorry I was naive about the lavender orpingtons since I am new to this but thanks for the heads up =)
We all started somewhere and we all have learning to do still, not matter what level of experience we have.
There are several groups for poultry on Facebook where you might be able to locate some of the breeds you want as well.

Isn't that the truth?!

Two years, 1000's of read BYC posts. I still am learning and humbled by chickening. Wouldn't trade it for the world though.

Have some acquaintances about 6 miles away considering chickens this spring. Young couple with Young kids on a pretty piece of property. They asked me for some basic advice. Breed selection, to vaccinate or not, feed, etc... Watched a youtube video on rescued battery hens not too long ago...I was eager to help this young family succeed with their chicken endeavor!

I work at a feed store and we had a big order of chicks come in today. One of the silkies had curled toes so I brought him home. I am really bad at splinting chicken feet! Poor little thing.
Curled toes, I just use pipe cleaners with tape. Shape the pipe cleaner to what the foot should be,and tape each toe with a bandaid or a strip of vet wrap, and in less than a week they are flat footed. I love that vet tape!!!

I used some sticky moleskin pad. Stuck it to the bottom if his foot after trimming it to size. Then I wrapped it in scotch tape. I took it off today (after 48 hrs) and his foot is all better! His toes were balled up like a fist before. Its amazing that it can be cured that quickly. Last year I had to bring to chicks home that had wry neck and give them poly-vi-sol. What the heck does Fleet Farm and Tractor Supply do with chicks like that? Let them die? I can't exactly bring them back to work to sell once they've come home with me.
