Holm Why are you taking the spurs off? If you free range which I think you do you are disarming your flock. Unless I had a rooster that was a complete,.... well you know what.... I can't say it cause of my double secret probation for swearing......... I would not disarm them. Those spurs could be the thing that give your hens the time to hide in case of a predator...

It is natural for a male to fly at another male spurs out during this high testosterone time of the year. Unless he is actually damaging another bird I would let it go.... I have one jake that I worry about not because of his actions to other birds but because of his actions to people. I am going to remove his spurs just below the head at about the C-4.

Maybe I would only remove the turkeys as he does damage other birds. In November he turned my white Pekin bright red and made him lose his eye for no reason. When I got out there he was jumping on him and smacking him with his wings...

Maybe I would only remove the turkeys as he does damage other birds. In November he turned my white Pekin bright red and made him lose his eye for no reason. When I got out there he was jumping on him and smacking him with his wings...

That's ok we love this big guy as he is a big love bug. He does chores with me and I'd really miss him. Once we got him hens he settled down. I'm thinking he tried to breed the duck before he had hens and the drake started attacking him.

I understand completely I was just making the offer. My JJ will run off the roosters and the guineas but I have never seen him attack one. He has plucked a feather or two of a bird that gets too close to his food I think that is normal for all of them. I had two chickens fighting over a mouse my Delaware killed yesterday (her 3rd mouse this week she is better than a cat)

I think its normal for them to pull a few feathers. Man JJ must scare them our roo stays and fight back. I have seen one hen eat a mouse and that's it but man can they get frogs and snakes. When our chicks were a few weeks old they killed a big snake. It was funny cuz they were so small.
