Minnesota!

Hi Cochins, Welcome! I'm about an hour southeast of you..... thanks to my chicken-eating-dog, I am down to 2 mixed roos right now, but have eggs due to hatch this week! No Cochins though :)

Hi, and I'm so sorry. If our dogs ever got to our chickens, we'd have the same problem and I'd be devistated.

So what breeds are you incubating? I hope you have a wonderful hatch rate! Right now, I've got 2 Sebastopol goose eggs incubating. They were shipped here from Florida and I'll try candling them in 3 days.

Anyone else hatching right now?

Hello Cochins, Which package did you order to get such wonderful colors and what breeds?

Why cochins of course, hahaha. I ordered the cochin bantam assortment while ideal poultry was having their 85 cent bantam sale. I just couldn't resist. I ordered 55 of them and gave 16 of them to a friend.

Here's when they first arrived, all but 4 survived the 2 day shipment with temperatures well below 0. I was so worried about them.

How CUTE!!!!
I kept looking for that sale but never found it.. I had been looking at them before but I heard that they are hard to breed due to all the fluffy feathers at the behind. So after that I just left them be but Iam still looking to ge some soon. I have been trying to get a broody bunch to hatch out some for me. Do you have any luck with broody's?

Hi! I'm from N MN near Bemidji and am looking for a welsummer roo. I go to the Twin Dities about once a month. Can any one help?

The sale wasn't up at first, they put it up a couple hours later. I have never had a problem with breeding and neither have many other breeders. There are a few that just can't figure it out with all the fluff, but that's not very common.

And during spring, summer, and fall, I have overwelming number of broodys. There was one point that I had 21 broodys out of 24 hens. If you actually want one to be broody at a certain time, it's pretty easy to convince them. I love my cochins both LF and bantam.

Cool, How far are you from the cities? I raise Black Australorps and have a pair of Cream Legbars. I would love to have some broody's to help raise some chicks for me. I also have lots of room. How is their quality with the cochins as I might be interested in some. I have been going to shows with the BA's and would like alittle diversity perhaps.

Mine aren't the greatest. I used to have some nice LF, but I'm slowly trying to switch to bantams because the feed is just getting too expensive. As far as bantams go, my oldest are 3 months. Most are from breeders (except these new ideal chicks) but since they're young, I'm unsure of the quality. If you are really interested, send me a pm and I can get you the phone numbers of a few breeders from the cochins international breeders directory.

That would be wonderful. I have gotten the show bug after last year. I am still gonna be focusing on the BA's but still want more diversity for showing. I might do the bantoms or just stick with the large fowl not sure yet.
