I am saying double yolker. All turkey eggs I have seen are whitish with speckles. Since turkeys are all one breed, but different varieties, I can't imagine there would be much variation in eggs with them. Not saying I am absolutely correct on that, but that is the educated guess I am making.

Minnie and lala I agree it is a double yolker after I candled it BUT my turkey eggs last year were a light brown about that size but they had specks all over them.........

I did not know there was little or no variation in turkey egg color...I can stop reading today I have learned my one thing early today thanks...

Yeah, no barn, but the shed is better than nothing. Here is the place I am really liking right now. (It's in Princeton.) It's a bit over our price limit though. Hoping it's still there when we are ready, and we can chew them down a bit.

I love my guineas, do not get me wrong, BUT I worked at the reformatory in St cloud when I was in college, and I liked some of the inmates too. This will really teach you about guineas and everything you need to know. I have an open door to a covered run so the birds can go outside anytime they want. I have a small wind break on the north side of the fence also; Now I Present the guineas: They were louder, but when I opened the door they quieted down a lot. PLease turn your volume way up to get full effect.

Hi Ralphie, I am way down in rice county but despite all that noise, I am looking for a few guineas to free range my property. Do you know anywhere local I can but just that many? We have relatives in Embarrass so driving that way would be an option too Thanks!

Oh those old farm houses. Gosh I love them.

I've decided that I just love my black australorp hen. Love love love her. She came out of the Free-Range nest box as soon as she saw me today at noon. 3 years old & laying away. Walked on my heels all the way to the coop...partially on the way back up. I didn't have any treats in my pocket otherwise she would have had some for sure. And she doesn't fight on the roost... <3 Everyone respects her and she doesn't have to peck anybody.

Cream Legbars are foraging with my crew. I love seeing that. Newbies getting to know their new turf. Fun Fun.

At 5:00 or so last night we got some big wet flakes up here around Leech Lake. That stuck to the ground overnight in certain places. Less than a 1/2 inch and it melted off the highways quite easily and most spots it didn't stick. And we're back to no snow again this afternoon. The conditions are quite dry around here. Pot holes are quite low for nesting wild ducks/geese/etc. But with the Avian flu...maybe that's just as well for me.

ChickyFarm. Having Guinea fowl is fun,, I just will not keep mine in the same coop as my chickens ever again. I like my chickens too much.

I actually plan to double the number of Guineas I have this summer. I figure some will die over winter. I have 9 now and I started with 20 running around last summer.

I have no idea when they will lay eggs, but I plan to incubate as many as possible. They seem to be in demand all the time on Craigslist.


I will have some whenever they lay eggs. You can get some keets or eggs from me then. Just know the babies are very fragile. I can never understand if they are just clowns or bullies. The good thing is most of their bad behavior is to each other.

When I picked up the creamettes from Triplell We talked about guineas and she said they were not really domesticated and were 3/4 wild I think she pegged them.



Ed was poorly behaved today. He assaulted Bert when I let Bert out of the coop. Poor Bert wanted to go back in and hide. I picked up Bert and Ed seemed to want to attack Bert when I was holding him so I chased Ed and "gently" booted him a few times. I hope he learned to leave Bert alone. However as soon as he ran from Bert and I he started a fight with Ernie...... I want Ed to fit in but I do not want him to be a bully. I think it is EJB's fault he never taught Ed any manners.

I tried to dig a test post hole to see if I could get more runs up but alas it is still frozen here about 3 inches down. I know I have too many roosters and some have to move to private pens.

Eventually I want Ed to be in the main coop with Ernie and most the hens.

Ray has his 2 creamettes and maybe I will give him a EE hen or two.

Bert is going to get a 3 rangers/Rainbows hens(heavy DP hens for my meat birds). I would like to give him the white rock but I think she maybe too small for him.

I am going to put Ole in a pen with a few up to 4 very colorful EE's.


Nameless is going to freezer camp. He is not a bad rooster I just do not care for the RIR look.


Anyone see a problem with this. Will it work?

Congratulations!  I hope your house sells soon!    We decided not to put an offer in on anything until we have a contract on this house.   I don't think I could handle the stress.     If we don't find a place right away, we will just rent, or live with my parents for a while (who happen to live on a farm. )

As for chickens, if I get a broody, I will probably give in and get some eggs or chicks to give her.   I have two bantam cochins that are great mothers.  They will sit forever when they do, so I have time to order eggs, or they will also take chicks no problem.      As long as we don't have any chickens in the house, we should be good.

I hear ya. It is stressful but we kind of found exactly what we wanted so we pulled the trigger. The worst part is trying to get my teenage boys to keep their rooms looking acceptable for showings. That's stressful for us all!

It all looks good!! But Bert sounds like he gets attached to his girls and won't he go into chicken depression?? I have a 1 and a half to 2 pound hen in with my 10-12 pound roo. She is the tiniest little EE and lays the biggest eggs out o the EE's.

You by Walker or the other side of the lake? It actually snowed pretty good for a couple hours in Park Rapids yesterday. Nothing stuck but it was the same big wet flakes you probably got. I do wish we'd get more precip (as long as it's not snow and/or doesn't stick). Do you remember the big fire we had here two springs ago? That thing came within a quarter mile of my house. Scared the crap out of me! I do NOT want a replay of that.
