thanks for the thinking on how the eggs ended up where they did.....
this morning, lots of chaos in the coop:



and with three in the box, which is up high on a shelf.....along came another:


what you can't see is behind the big sulmtaler hen, in the corner on the right, there are three hens crowded into that spot too!
so the eggs were on the floor, which has lots of hay and they didn't break.
this morning though, there were two broken eggs on the ground - I just happened to be there before the evidence was consumed.

I'd put a lip on that box so that they can't fall on the floor during the wresting matches...

2 out of 3 of Bert's babies have white spots on their heads. weird.

Maybe they want to be creamettes too.

Here I was seeing those of you posting new puppies and thanking my lucky stars for how healthy our pets are only to come home yesterday to find the kitty had had some kind of accident and would not make it through the night. The dogs are trying to comfort me, but it isn't the same since they don't purr. I have had this kitty for basically my whole adult life (15 years) and besides when I was in college dorms, I have had a cat my whole life so this is a huge change.

I'm so sorry for ur loss!!

Here I was seeing those of you posting new puppies and thanking my lucky stars for how healthy our pets are only to come home yesterday to find the kitty had had some kind of accident and would not make it through the night. The dogs are trying to comfort me, but it isn't the same since they don't purr. I have had this kitty for basically my whole adult life (15 years) and besides when I was in college dorms, I have had a cat my whole life so this is a huge change.

u have my deepest sympathy. I have had cats all my long life and losing them is ALWAYS hard. Personally, I feel the quicker a new kitten comes home and fills that empty spot the better. I love the purrs. A new kitten keeps you busy and makes you smile...plus they need you so you get lots of love!!! Fortunately Pye is only 6. I am hoping she lives a long life!! No kitten can replace the lost one but you will fall in love with it and quite quickly!! They are all individuals. I have loved all my kitty's!! I do not think you have to chose between dogs and cats. I have both!! So does my sis (and obviously you too) yes the dogs do try to comfort but I agree they don't purr so get another purrfect kitten as soon as you are ready to let another kitty into your heart.

I have no need of any cats, BUT I sure could use a Cochin hen. I am told they go broody at the drop of a hat and I want broody birds. Mine refuse to go broody.



If any of you have a cochin hen (or two) you want to sell I would be interested. They would go immediately into a special dark place with fake eggs until they decided to brood. Then they could raise Baby Berts!
