Minnesota!

Hey all! It's been awhile. How have u all been? Not much has happened here. If anyone's interested I have 3 female Pekin duvk who r showing sign of laying. I also have some pretty roos for sale.

I am not mixing my own feed. Without a good source of protein, I do not think it makes economical sense to do it.

I buy farm grains for treats and scratch, and to supplement the dinner table scraps they get.

I bought rye to seed my pasture to raise grasshoppers and use as a green manure. I found some oats online for $1.25 a bushel, about a buck below market. He had posted pictures, it was all molding dark and not looking good. I am not feeding my birds that "good deal".

Talked to DNR today. Emailed him the track pictures. He talked with some wildlife folks who told him they think it is coyote not wolf. We chatted. I need more proof it is a wolf. I need pictures on game camera, I need to see it and if there are more prints I need to use a ruler to take pictures.
He said I can set up traps or snares and I am free to shoot at it. I need to tell him if a wolf gets caught in the traps/snares. I told him I will keep him posted on any more goings on here. He told me there has been wolf activity very recently that has taken 4 calves that were a month old just miles from me. *sigh* I know it is part of where I live but to know they are literally right out my door is bothersome.

This is the first play in there book. At least they didn't threaten to throw you in jail or fine you 25 grand if you killed it. They never admit it is a wolf, because then they have to pay you restitution for your losses.

A quarter is just under and inch in diameter. Looking at your pictures I am guessing that print is about 4 1/2 inches long.

Referring back to the picture/sketch I pasted here from the Wisconsin DNR a coyote print is seldom over 2 3/4 inches........

In my book, they lied to you. But heck when doesn't the DNR lie to us?

Exactly.
He told me I need the more concrete evidence to prove it is a wolf and they will send a wildlife person to trap it and take care of it. I looked on the DNR website and you can only shoot a wolf if it is causing human harm not livestock.
I know he knows it is a wolf. The prints are way, WAY bigger than coyote. I told him so. But what ever.
That is what he said about the calves that were taken. They couldn't prove it was a wolf. Please. Four calves not a wolf pack?

Oh I forgot to add......he asked me if I had heard any howling lately. I said sure did just last night. So close that DH got me up and outside to hear it. No it was not coyotes. But then I can't 'prove' they were wolves out there.
All I can do is set my traps, set my game cameras and try to protect my farm as best as possible. Oh I told him I have cattle too and will be expecting calves in a few months possibly. Yeah, I think I will be chatting with him a bit if we don't get this under control soon.
