Minnesota!

We don't even have trash service anymore for ourselves. I bring recycling to town once a month, compost what I can, burn barrel for most of the rest. Anything I can't or won't burn I have been putting in empty chicken feed sacks. When I have a truckloads worth I will run to the dump myself.

Our rental property in town we do use a local company that is reasonable and has great customer service.

Boy-o if craigslist isn't full of chickens looking for new homes now! Spent my lunch browsing the farm sections. Somebody down here was trying to sell 2.5 yr old hens for 15 bucks a piece! Also there was a lady giving away Pygmy goats if anyone is looking

I'm from Minnesota. Brand New to this chicken thing. I think one of my herbs is egg bound. Can anyone help?

Welcome! When we were kids, we gave the hen a warm bath. Seemed to do the trick. My mom even put vaseline on their bums. She was one dedicated lady :) It depends what the issue is I suppose (egg too large, etc.). I haven't had this issue with my current quarter-life crisis flock. I'm sure there's better remedies nowadays.

Welcome to the Minnesota Thread. Photos and such help...also more of a description of the hen. How old is she? Is she a pullet since you are new to the thread and to chickening? It could be possible that she's trying to find a place to lay in which you may need to help her find it. Locking her in the coop and putting her in a nest box with attractive and clean hay/bedding/nesting materials perhaps?

If she is taking longer than what you deem possible. --Because my first hen did lay a double yolker for me and took her a while-- then you can try a warm bath to warm & relax the muscles of the cloaca/vent. and smearing a little olive oil around the vent to help transport that egg to this world.
If the egg shell has broken within her that is a whole other can of worms. and which then I would send you to the section of BYC with emergencies, illnesses, injuries...etc to do a little research or post a new thread.
