Minnesota!

Eggs and just for fun mostly. If they are good for meat, that is a plus.
Runner ducks are pretty good layers, and extremely fun to watch, but I don't think you can get much meat from them. Here is a list of ducks from the hatchery I got my ducks, you can read about each breed and do other research on other breeds to see what suits your purposes.

Welcome back owl. Beautiful farm there.
Nordic. It is a little late in the season for Broodies and babies. If we get snow the free ranging will probably stop too. But it surely has been a nice couple of days we had this week..... I'd shoot for getting the run done though and a cover to keep snow out.

With the twins I developed complications too. High blood pressure low platelets and elevated liver tests. They shut off my lights in the room so I wouldn't get seizures. I never felt any thing coming on though so just overly cautious in my humble opinion. But I guess the called it HELP syndrome. Acronym is hepatic elevation low platelets.
Ended up with a c section. Twins are trickier anyways I guess and it all turned out fine.

Big full day in Fargo. We lost our section championship game so no going to "state". Still proud of the boys.

Planning some time prepping coop and the run for winter this weekend. It's time.

I moved the crabby broody to the coop. She had six eggs under her and one chick. The chick is black with a white spot on the back of its head. Came out of a brown egg (the Wellie has apparently been sitting on other eggs because there were also blue and green eggs under her). The only rooster we have left is a Dominique (barred). So does that mean the chick is a cockerel? We do have a few Icelandic cockerels, but they are still pretty young.

Morning everyone!

News from yesterday - stupid dog ran through something and ended up with a cut down to her Achilles' tendon, thankfully not through, and had to get stitched up. She hates the cone of shame and wants to go outside and run.
Found coyote scat in our backyard area, no wonder dog is so restless.

As I'm standing in the coop doing a head count I hear scratching noises from the roof area. Something out of a horror film! The squirrels have probably set up their winter nest and the chickens are absolutely not bothered by it! Am still going to get a ladder and peek in the area through the one window and be certain.

After our rat conversation I was a bit concerned.

Morning everyone. I thought I was up early for a weekend at 6:20, woke up, couldn't get back to sleep :\
Scandia, hope your puppers heals up fast. Poor thing. Always something work animals it seems, never a dull moment!
