Minnesota!

I did it and would prefer to never do it again... it was hard to do at Ralphies but I think it was easier because it wasn't one of my own... Well my girl Butterscotch the one that has had all the problems,,, i went to the run this morning to feed and water and noticed there was almost nothing left to her head I could see her eyeballs but her head was bloody with huge holes it was not good.. I think maybe she scratched till it bleed and the other girls must have did the rest. I didn't see any sign of entry from an animal and everyone else looked good. So i knew what needed to be done. I made a killing cone out of a milk jug and screwed it to the tree. I went to the coop and said Pooper Pack and yes she came right to me,,,she always has, she is the only one that does... so I picked her up and held her. when she started cooing it just about broke my heart. Anyways it was over very quickly... I was going to take her to the U of M but I just couldn't i dug a big hole by the Cherry Tree... 2 hens in 1 wk... to hard...
Oh no! I am so very sorry. Two birds is too much.

Hello Jer, welcome to Minnesota :)

Hi. I just saw a feathery brownish looking jiggly thing popping up out of my hens turd. Anyone have a clue if this could have been a string of her feather or some type of worm? She seems fine raising some chicks now. I tried to google search this if it may be a worm and nothing besides a post from a member came about. She is a Rhode Island Red and the wiggler looked about same color or lighter than her. I then went and looked at fresh roost poo and found just a little smudge of blood in one dropping. I just picked up some Wazine. Not sure this will help. Hens and roo are about 9 months.

HI Jen,

That doesn't really sound like a worm...but maybe I am just not understanding your description. I don't use wazine so can't help you there. There is always an option to take droppings to a vet for a fecal float test, because not all wormers are for all kinds of worms.

Blood in your rooster's droppings could be cocci, and you need corid for that. But if could also be intestinal lining being shed....
