Hello Minnesota. I am moving from Colorado to Minnesota this spring and will be restarting my flock ASAP. Anybody know any good breeders around the Mankato area? Any good laying cold hardy breeds would be of interest. Thanks.
I think my bantam hen has scaly leg mites. Would bag balm work to suffocate the mites? Does it have to be reapplied everyday, or occasionally?
Welcome! We prefer straight run but some people get certain genders.
I find it is worth the extra 30-50 cents to get all cockerels.
We got all hens, red ranger. It was nice because there was no cock fighting, and we were able to grow them out a little bigger. We brought them in to be butchered to, dennison meat locker was around $2 per bird.
Klopklop, is that because they are bigger? What age do YOU butcher them?
Wow it's nice to get perspective on all 3 options, thanks.
Holm25, when you get straight run do you butcher them before any rooster problems start(age)? And how much do they weigh on average after butchering?
Okay thanks. How long does it take to kill? And how do the mites survive in freezing temps? Is there anyway to get rid of them without getting some product? Do they affect waterfowl?Put it on thick and every couple of days would work. You will want to treat the coop with Sevin dust or some other product or remedy to get them out of the housing.
