Miracle- Hello! guinea/chicken crossbreed

Hello from Miracle,

What a day I had yesterday. For some reason Mena let all 3 of us out of our cage so we could run around with the grown up birds. Those grown ups are not very nice to us. They want to chase us around and peck us. They don't really hurt much but they drive us crazy and we have to run and run. I got very tired and had to find a hiding place. Rascal and Little Bit kept on running and then they went foraging with the flock of big guineas. I was still very tired and so Mena put me in the outdoor pen with Sweetie and Little Red. They left me alone and let me rest. I just laid down and panted and panted with my beak open. When I rested a while I felt better but I was sure glad not to be chased.

Mena didn't put any new pictures of me on here last week. She said something about running out of space. Also I think she thought people were getting tired of looking at me since I have not changed a lot in the past few weeks.

I may not be as strong and have as much energy as Little Bit and Rascal but I am a lot smarter than they are. Don't tell them I said so though. It would hurt their feeling. When Mena comes in and lets us out of the cage to get some exercise in the coop I always watch her hands. She feeds me with her hands and she also opens the cage with them. Little Bit and Rascal don't watch her like I do. As soon as her hands open the cage I fly up on top, stand there about 3 seconds, fluff my feathers, and then fly into the coop and run around. It feels so good! Little Bit and Rascal just want to look straight ahead. Finally they will figure it out and fly out but they don't understand how the cage works like I do. I don't like having to be in the cage all the time but when I get really tired it feels good.

(they still don't know if I am a boy or a girl)

Goodbye for now

PS: (from Mena)

I'm worried about Miracle. It didn't take very long for him/her to get really tired. I noticed this one time before. Do you think there might be a heart problem? I would let them out to roam with the flock if it were not for Miracle getting tired. I'm keeping the 2 guineas caged too so Miracle isn't alone. All 3 are on chick starter. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

hi i had a cochin roo with the same problem had bad kidneys the best thing to do is keep it in the most stress free area as possible maybe if you have like a stable or somthing she could be a stable bird i hope all i well also try not to move her around as much

Yes, get Game bird feed. Guineas really need the protein in this feed You can mix it 50/50 with the chick starter until they all get used to it.

This is REALLY important, 24 % protein is the best. I would continue to let the three out and watch carefully as Miracle sounds like he/she may need supervision from the other Guineas/Chickens for awhile.

Guinea Fowl are VERY hardy, BUT if they do not get the protein they become fragile and prone to health problems.

Take care of your Miracle, we all love to hear from he/she.

Oh no...hope little Miracle is okay...

And we don't mind that his/her changes aren't dramatic, we still like seeing the little fella/gal.

We all love Miracle. The "tiring" easily make me think of heart trouble. Maybe he was born with a "guinea" heart but, the genes to be a large chicken. His fast growth may be putting too much demand on his heart. I wonder if vets can treat chickens for it like they do dogs/cats.

Thank you. I'll up the protein. I let them out in the coop for exercise today and shut the adults out. Right before I put them up I let the adults back into the coop. Miracle stayed close to me like he understood that the others would not bother him there. I promise you that bird can think.
