Just a thought for the future, maybe hang signs saying your property is monitored? This would alert someone of a camera (in my state to press charges with footage you have to let the person know they are monitored). But this would also be a good deterrent.

Thats what I’m thinking. I have a new neighbor down the road that told me randomly the first time I met him that he was feeding my chickens. Who I had noticed started gravitating towards his yard recently. I stopped free ranging my birds. His property doesn’t even boarder mine. I plan on putting cameras up to see what happens!
Not sure if you’d feel comfortable with this but if I were you as I suspected him I’d go and check out his yard when he’s not home. And maybe take a walk around your neighborhood and see if you spot them in anyone else’s yards or through windows. You said they were mallards, is there anyway they could have flown off? Or are their wings clipped?

The worst part is while I’ve had chickens for years! This is my first year with ducks and I lost them all but 1! It’s awful! I’m now scrambling to find him friends! Praying he doesn’t get too sad being alone!
Btw :welcome and yes I’d definitely get him more friends ASAP, but definitely keep looking for the others for a few days, especially checking out that new neighbor and maybe asking him some questions and if he seems suspicious investigate further. It makes me really angry when people steal pets and if anyone stole one of my babies idk what I’d do.:hit:fl:hugs

You can also post a lost ad on Craigslist, you just never know. The farm and garden section at least in my area is booming with everything poultry so it shouldn't be too difficult to find some buddies. I feel for you and your poor lonesome guy.
