Quick update. As I mentioned we segregated her for observation. Her leg seems ok, but I went over her thoroughly tonight and she does in fact have some minor wounds that I did not see before.
So I went out to the coop where the other hen was with the missing tail feathers and decided to go over her more thoroughly and she also has wounds (some are actually worse than the bird I segregated. So...….
1) I still have NO idea how the run got opened. I'm still suspecting kids, BUT predator or kids, I have secured all doors in the run.
2) Obviously at some point in time they did come face to face with some kind of predator. Since I was away for the weekend this could have happened at any point between Friday and Sunday morning when I found it open. I thank my lucky stars cause it could have had much more devastating results. I'm hoping the birds will heal.
3) I'm off to the wound section of this forum for additional help.
For anyone who are experts in that area....please see my post to come. Advice welcome.
thank you
