I have 4 chickens who spent 5 months at another coop while my family was evacuated post ca fires. They had mites there but were treated twice before coming home. Our coop had new sand bedding & nesting pads. Its about 5 weeks since theyve been home & I noticed some feather loss (not a ton) on butts and spotted egg sacs by feather base but havent seeen bugs in coop or on the chickens. I have been using DE everyhere since theyve been home & also de’d their butts and bought premo spray. I have a sand run, hemp roost & nesting pads. Do I have to replace the sand!? Thats a huge undertaking & want to know if necessary?

I just ordered elector psp that I plan to spray each chicken with & the wood in roost & coop & can replace hemp. thank you thats helpful about sand run…
The Elector PSP can be used to treat housing and the birds, follow the directions on the package/bottle.

Removing all the sand would likely be difficult and probably not needed.

Most Poultry Mites live in the housing, while Lice mainly live on the body.

You mention spotting Egg Sacs at the base of the feathers. Could it be Lice Nits instead of Mites? Do you have photos of the Egg Sacs on the feathers?

Look at the photos in this article to I.D. what you are seeing so you know what you are treating. https://the-chicken-chick.com/poultry-lice-and-mites-identification/

Also—is it possible they are dead eggs from previous treatment (5 werks ago)? would eggs fall off if killed? because my hens dont show symptoms and have been acting normally…

actually, they look most like the first pic—esp because thats all I see, no actual lice (or mites)

ahh and that could mean they are actually hatched lice eggs from a previous infestation and thats ehy they have no symptoms and im not seeing the lice on any bird!?!
Could be lice eggs if they look like little white qtips on the base of the feathers.

Possible, they have all hatched and been eliminated with your treatments. As far as I know, the eggs are viable for a long time and dusting or spray will not penetrate the eggs, so you may want to check frequently for any lice that have hatched.
