Long story short, I tried to use DE to treat mites/lice on my two new roosters. It didn't work. I have never really had to treat my chickens for mites/lice before, so I have a lot of questions: what kind of treatment should I use? Do I have to treat the coop too? I only have 16 chickens (mostly bantams), so I can treat them all individually if I need to.

DE does nothing despite the claims. I use a pyrethrin based poultry dust. Hold them by their feet with their chest resting on the ground, dust them liberally that rub it in a bit and release. Dust all roost cracks and any wood cracks in the coop. Repeat in a week or two if necessary.

Do you think that DE helps prevent from getting mites/lice?

I personally never use DE, it's a respiratory irritant. I make sure my birds have access to some loose dusty ground to dust bath which keeps external parasites in check.

Ok, Thanks!
