Mites...

I think the mites came in a mew bedding i tried because I've never had issue before. So I switch back to pine shavings just to be safe...

Curious, what kind of bedding?

Sorry for the delay but 2x @Isaac 0 ... Haven't been on for awhile. I used only pine shavings, never had a issue with mites. Couple years ago after alot of rain and humidity (normal here) I went berserk after finding mites crawling on my legs when in the Chicken House. Removed all shaving & sprayed the CH at least 3x that week. I used Permethrin, Neem, Insecticidal Soap, Raid and alcohol ... Funny part was it was only in the shavings, not on the roosts, not in the nest box and not on the chickens.

Nothing was helping so I collected some and took the to Agricultural Dept here. He tells me it's a mite (duh) but it's not a bird mite, more like a ground mite (?) They look exactly like mites but their color was "golden", then he tells me there's thousands of different kinds of mites, some good some not, he thinking these were "good" mites. Assuming the weather conditions we were going through made them multiply.

I have learned that they do come out when we've had heavy rains which brings about our intense humidity. They disappear eventually, don't bother the chickens although they do bother me knowing it's a bug. I also noticed they collect under the plastic molded dog dish I put the FF in. So when I collect the dish in the evening, I spray with alcohol or raid ... Makes me feel better. But I know now that once it starts cooling off, they'll disappear until next time.

Just an FYI, there's more to mites than bird mites
