Mixed breeds

Pics
I have hatching eggs ready to go...$5.00 a dozen + $15.00 shipping. I have red productions and easter eggers that lay green eggs. If you want to see them they are in my pictures ( I don't have the polish roos anymore).
Are the Easter Eggers "pure" or are they mixed with something else?

This is my Phoenix/Production Red mixed pullet, Poot. Her dad is the roo in my profile picture. Her mom was a production red hen we bought at a swap. She is the only pullet out of the hatch.

I love seeing the mixed breed birds on this thread. Most of my flock is made up of mixed breeds.. Various varieties at least :) I'd love to eventually get hatching eggs for some frizzled and naked neck breeds. How gorgeous all of your birds are!

This is "Bulma" a little silkie cross baby... I think momma was a salmon faverolle in my flock and daddy was a blue silkie.

This is "Videlle" a 3/4 bantam cochin, 1/4 silkie baby! Daddy was a mottled black bantam cochin, momma was a buff partridge looking silkie/cochin cross.

This is "Pan" the smallest of the three babies I kept (we hatched 14 total) I believe she has a mille fleur d'uccle momma and a silkie/RIR cross daddy. :) She is truly taking on bantam size..

I have others and want to post pictures of my adult birds, I'll definately be doing it soon!

Oh and this is Samwise Gamgee a.k.a "Sam" , a Silver Laced Sebright roo for a daddy and a partridgexBuff bantam cochin momma (his grandpa was a buff cochin, grandma was partridge).

This is the main rooster in our laying flock "Zeus" he is a cuckoo marans/polish cross. He was 4 months in the photo, and this was one of the photos I saw of him before I bought him. (taken by his previous owner) I don't have any other pictures of him on this computer that are recent, but he is gorgeous.

Let's say I am ordering quite a few chicks in the spring, and I'm wondering a few things. Because I want a lot of mix chickens, but I would also like to have some purebred chickens as well to use if need be in later crosses...so Would I need to split the different breeds like into different coops, like put my Faverolles roo in a coop with all the hens that I would like mixed with faverolles, likewise for my silkie, and then my rocks and rock mixes? How does free range work with something like that? Would they be let out at different times? Or are they more likely to mate when housed together with their own hens, or will they try to mate each other's hens?
I love mixed breed birds, but also purebreeds, so I want to have both all the time. I figure if I put whatever hens I want to mix as well as the hens belonging to a rooster's breed together in a coop then that will work right? I just don't want a lot of free range mishaps. I know that the roosters I have now are pretty particular with another rooster having their way with one of their hens so will that be enough for me to know that all the eggs I get from my white rocks in with a white rock rooster are indeed filled with white rock chicks? Or will I end up with a huge mixed chicken muttfest? I am alright with either one, but I did want to to still end with some pure chicks are well as the mixed.

well it sounds like you pretty much know whom you want with whom. now as far as breeding well you need to keep your hens and roosters of the ones you want together-ONLY. if you want them to free range but not to mate with anybody else then you will need to keep them seperate, let out at different times. now if they do mate with others that is not intended then you will need to keep the hen seperate for about two weeks, and don't expect the eggs to be from the daddy that you are wanting. the hen will keep the sperm inside her, use as needed for at least 2 weeks.

so in short you will need to seperate, keep seperated. if you want to change the breeding pens give the hens 2 weeks before you can be pretty sure the daddy is who you are wanting. once you get your set-up, up and running then it will go very smoothly. at first it can be a little overwhelming. but sounds like this isn't your first rodeo
