Mixed breeds

I'm not an expert but I would think breeding bantams with larger birds might be difficult and the offspring may be weaker so I would say if you plan on breeding I would get all the same size or add some bantam hens for the little guy

The truly large breeds are more likely to be more docile, such as the Jersey Giants, Brahmas, and Cochins (these for sure). Also keep in mind that you are more likely to have aggression from a hatchery stock bird (in general the more aggressive the roos the more likely to pass on genetics). You have a good list of choices, keep in mind that the Ameraucanas will probably be Easter Eggers unless from a reliable breeder. My Orpingtons have been some of my favorite birds, might I also suggest Brahmas!

Good to know. i expected the ameracanas to likely be eastereggers and im ok with that. I havent searched much on cochins and bramas.

I started this thread and then never posted pictures on it. That is going to change. Meet my mixed breed chickens. The white and black ones in this pic are mixed. 2 of my roosters are also mixed. I know there is cochin in there and austrolorp but that's it. No idea what they all are.

So glad I found this. I had been reading other sites about the hybrids and mix breeds. Most seemed to frown on it. One person even mentioned the word "messy". I am expecting in about 10 days Wyandotte mixes. I think they will be beautiful. I am relieved to see so many positive statements about this.

anyone have any idea on old English colors? This chick came from a black breasted red and a crele? Not sure if this could be some kind of true color and how the silver came from these two? I know there is some silver barring In the Crele but not much? Thank you for any info

I see silver wyandote possibly maybe polish but the comb throws me off
