Awesome pictures everyone!

My mixed cochin x barred rocks were 15 weeks old Saturday, and check out their MASSIVE size compared to dad who is a year old, and very big for a barred rock rooster.

I am keeping the girls for eggs/broodies, and the boys will be used for meat. They look like they will serve their purpose, don't they?

Here is a pullet

Here is a size comparison. The father on the left - with a heritage type BR on the right - and the boy on the right is 4 weeks older then my mixes! Crazy!!
You're all killing me. Cochins here are always sold out before I make it. I MUST get a few cochins!!!!!

Quote: Maybe it's been a while since I had chicks, but I thought comb color indicated cockerel too.

This fella is one month old, Barred rock sire, Golden Comet (already a cross/mix) mama. I just got him so I didn't see how pale his comb started or how slowly he feathered, but this pink comb has me thinking BOY! I'd love it if girl instead.

Yes you must! Mine are great, though mixed colouring. 1/2 partridge 1/2 buff. They are BIG girls. Mixed with the barred rock should improve egg laying and prevent as frequent broody spells.

Here is the female I use in this cross. She is the heaviest chicken I own. She is as heavy as my geese (who are 14 weeks, but still big). I think she looks to have nice big breast meat. She actually lays really well (when she isn't hiding them!)

She's really lovely. Very lucky of you to have her! Eventually I'll manage to get some. Might just order from a hatchery next year. I love those feathered feet!

If only you could find some colour culls from a breeder. I've heard that the hatchery cochins run very small.

I paid $5 for her when she was 2 months old. I was given her sister for free.

Just because of the colour mix up :)

I like the mixed better too somtimes there better so it's always fun to see what color they are and there usually very pretty
