Mixed (Free-Range) Flock Keepers

Hey all,

It's true there's some discussion on mixed flocks in the forums, but what I'd like to see are pictures of Your mixed flocks. I'm a free ranger with geese and chickens so I'm looking to see what other free rangers are putting out there to pasture. They don't have to be housed together, but at least range together or share the same community space.

Words are great, but as they say pictures are worth 1000!

Here's a few of mine which I'm happy to share more of, presently 2 geese, 1 gander (still technically goslings), and 6 hens, soon to increase.

Awesome! I love seeing heritage breeds!

Chickens cover the perimeter whereever the geese are and benefit from the gander's keen eye on the sky. They just can't get too close or they'll get run off.

Bantam Cochin, Silkies, and my BLR Wyandotte, mingling with my Muscovy and Mallard-derived ducks.

I also have some Lavender Orps, and a Polish cockerel (who gets along with EVERYONE!), and my new EE cockerel who is slowly learning that no one is out to 'get him'.

Minor scuffles at times, usually when I get mobbed for food, but otherwise no issues.

I wish I had a picture or video of it, but didn't get to witness it myself. My daughter's bf was over with some minnows for the ducks, and one of the Silkie/Cochin bantams grabbed a minnow from one of the ducks and booked it! Daughter said it was the funniest thing, with the minnow just bouncing from either side of her beak as she ran away with her prize, lol!

The only birds I free rage are guineas and chickens. Usually the two types keep to themselves. I only see them intermingle when they're coming out of the coop in the morning or going in at night.

That's a keeper of a chicken! Good traits
